Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

Quote: No, I haven't modded my RP220, other than replacing the stock tubes with Ei's. Do you know of any mods posted on the web anywhere? There's a thread over on rec.audio.pro where a guy named Monte McGuire describes some things he did to his. I just got mine, haven't even tracked with it. I will...

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

soundguy, thanks for the advice, it's appreciated. You're right, I don't have any hi-end mic pre's, no Neve clones, API's or whatever. I have a Soundtracs Topaz console, a Rolls RP220, an ART Tube MP. Any mic pre's that I would buy would have to be significantly better, and from what I've read, the ...

Re: RNP: Are you kidding?!

We have a lot of good people here. The best thing I got from this thread is, I'm not in the market for a RNP anymore. $500 is still a lot of money to me, and I might as well wait and put that $ toward something better.

Another thing is, I have a RNC and I don't particularly care for it, either.

Re: crown cm 700...what's up?

I've had mine for 5 years or so... my first pair of SD condensers. I agree with JES... they don't have an exciting sound to them. I've used them as snare mics (top or bottom) and hi-hat mics (on a "dull" set of hats). I think they work best used close-up on "loud" sources.

Re: Whoohoo! I must gloat about my latest ebay score.

My best buddy stopped at a yard sale and snared a DOD R-846 mono spring reverb, never racked, with limiter, 4 band EQ, for $10. Paid him on the spot without hesitation. Sounds lo-fi springy. I am a happy guy.

Re: Worst guitar tones ever

Andre Williams was a '50s r&b pop star (wrote "Shake a Tailfeather" and others) resurrected from obscurity in the late 1990's. His album Silky, with guitar work from the guy in the Dirtbombs, is full of crappy guitar sounds. The playing isn't so great, neither are the tones. Ick.

Re: Why does the White Stripes "Elephant" suck?

As a bass player, I miss not hearing a defined bass guitar. The drummer's timing problems are a distraction. 7 Nation Army is a great single.

heylow, you have issues. Learn to deal.

chocolatechickenpotpie, As far as tapeopcon goes, people are fine as soon as they understand that everyone is talking the same language and are on the same page.

We all need to stop prolonging the inevitable and let this thread die.

Re: posse in the studio?

KingOlaf , I don't care much for those negatives you don't like either. Not all rap or hip-hop is full of negativity. You are right in the fact that I shouldn't generalize some of you 'cause I don't know you. I'm saying, don't generalize people's behavior, actions and demeanor by their preferred mu...

Re: posse in the studio?

tiger vomitt, I agree with you. It's not always about color... but sometimes it IS. In some cases, it IS fear of the unknown. People always fear what they are unfamiliar with, and negative stereotypes seem to be easier to accept. Nothing wrong with being cautious... who wants people to come in and s...

Re: Single Channel Mic Pre's???

There is no magically great, cheap mic pre. I have an Audio Buddy and a Tube MP and if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the Audio Buddy. It is clean-sounding but colorless. The available phantom power is less than 48V, which might cause you problems as well. The Audio Buddy is less than $10...

Re: posse in the studio?

I have to agree with trashy , I think it's wrong to label "all" rap artists as being capable of behaving as criminals, thieves and low-lifes. Punks and rockers, in fact all musicians and people are capable of improper or criminal behavior. When you expect people to behave inappropriately due in part...
