Re: The worst mistake you made when you were new to this...

i would recommend never buying brand-new equipment (as in, stuff that just came out on the market). wait until all the bugs have been worked out of the gear before you buy it. this doesn't mean "never buy new stuff from a store" ... it just means wait a while before you buy something that's just bee...

Re: REcording ska core band

i would tell them about your experience recording drums and guitars at the same time, and if they still want to record that way, so be it. maybe they are not good at overdubbing or want a "live" sound. i think drums sound a billion times better if there isn't a guitar blasting away in the same room ...

Re: Would Appreciate Feedback / Advice - Hex County Mp3s

first of all, great songs. really.

since you don't have monitors, i would say go ahead and get some. whatever you have seems to be working well though, i don't see any problems with the mix.

one of my friends bid on a small island off the coast of newfoundland. he was only willing to bid eight dollars, so he didn't get it.

Re: Seether/Finger 11 type stuff for your scrutiny

i like the guitar intro a lot.

i think the hi-hat sounds a bit loud, especially on the verse parts. it's the first thing that attracts my attention during the "tappatappatappatappa" verse part.

doesn't sound like a "newbie" mix to me.

Re: Mastering Question

i just sent a CD-R master to be manufactured almost a month ago ... should be getting the final product back this week. i didn't inquire about real time speed on the glass master cutting process ... how important is that, jeff (you're making me nervous)?

Re: How Cold is too Cold?

i want to bump this post up because i'm interested in hearing an answer. i have a DAW and last winter sometimes i got interference from condensation. i heard that repeated exposure to cold can really damage all the electronics in a DAW, so i'd like to know how warm it has to be for equipment to be s...

Re: Mastering expectations (a question you likely CAN answer

i'm not sure i understand your question(s) completely so bear with me. it looks like you're asking what's expected from the perspective of the duplicator/manufacturer. here's what i can tell you: manufacturers vary widely in their capabilities, so i can't tell you that all manufacturers can transfer...

question about CD production

if i have an album with no stops/space in between tracks (it is like that on the master CD-R), do i have to work out something special with the production company to make sure all the CD's end up the same way as the original CD-R i sent them? i don't want a couple seconds to be added between the tra...

Re: Harvest Drums

in my opinion, a good drummer is one who plays to suit the music. keith moon style drumming would've made harvest a joke. the style of drumming neil young demands would've stolen a lot of the power from the who's music. it totally depends on the context of the song, and i don't think it has anything...
