Re: Recomend Me a Good Trem Pedal

I absolutely love the Mad Professor Mellow Yellow Tremolo. It sounds great and has a gain knob so your volume doesn't have to drop the way it does on a lot of tremolo pedals. The PCB version sounds just as great as the hand wired. https://reverb.com/marketplace?product_type=effects-and-pedals&query=...

Re: Insuring your studio and live gear

We had a policy with Music Pro for quite a while. They were very good to deal with. A client got a guitar stolen out of a common area and they ponied up the dough for that promptly. They also didn't flinch with the values of the stuff at the studio and it also covered my gear on tour. I don't know h...

too bad no M-500. That's an astounding mic for basic tracks or guitar/vocal rejection.

Re: Acoustic Guitar in Untreated Room

Recording Acoustics in an untreated room: If you want to get a tighter sound some absorption behind the microphone will help. No absorption? You can accomplish this if you have 2 extra mic stands w booms by setting each one up as a T (boom horizontal to the ground) and draping some blankets over the...

Re: The dreaded Pro Tools upgrade

Trading "up" to an 11 year old computer sounds crazy to me. When I started we had to have a console and large format tape machines to work. When I read a post like this I just don't get it. I feel like my advice would be unwelcome but here goes. My advice would be to get the best (supported) compute...

I don’t know if you’ve tried a solution like this, but I gave up on the idea of a cab in the house…I plug my amps into a Two Notes Torpedo Live and record direct. Best of both worlds, imho.
I use the UA OX (similar product) and I'm super happy with the results.

Re: tips for mixing a live recording - using gates etc

My advise would be to mix a live recording the way you would mix a live show....

Get the vocal mics sounding good then add the other elements that help the overall mx.

Awesome - the clips sound terrific, both channels and the blend.

And switchable rectumfriers!

Thanks, I'm really digging it.
I saw this on insta. I dig that amp, it seems to love P90s, which I also do.
Get one!
It'll go nice with your Neotek!

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I got a new amp. I ordered it in September from Cutthroat Audio in Idaho. It's their take on the Brown Deluxe with a few extra twists like internal channel jumping and selectable negative feedback and tube/SS rectifier. It's got that cool "bias tremolo" that only the brown Fenders had. I ordered it ...

Re: anyone working at 96k?

We've been doing 96k for a long time.
Sounds very good w our Burl rig.
That said, the largest percentage of the UA plugs (the modeled ones) only go to 48k.
Most of their original plugs go to 96. My OX box also only goes to 48. I use the digital outs with it at home.

Re: A 1-mic drum recording has me rethinking so many things

I've made some one mic recordings for some drummers I worked with. I also had one drummer go to a place on his own and get a one mic recording of his playing. This one guy was a very good player but he hit every drum and cymbal with the same force. The one mic recording was the eye opener I hoped fo...

Re: Silica Gel desiccant packets in the studio?

I can't find the article but Dr Z (amp maker) recommends keeping them in the back of your combo amp or in guitar speaker cabinets. Moisture can drastically alter the way paper speaker cones perform. I used them to 'dry out' some speakers that had been in a overly humid environment. They come with so...

Good to hear it.

I've done it a couple times and have experienced the positives you mention and zero regrets.
