So Slint falls into that categoriy of "Great bands to come out of Louisville, Kentucky AFTER I move away to Florida--along with My Morning Jacket and Squirrel Bait." I knew I should have given Louisville a few more years. Horrible bands were one of the reasons I moved away in the first place. Yeah ...

Transferring from an analog reel to a replication-ready digital format *is* mastering. The audio made it from a mix format to a replication-ready format -- that is the strictest definition of mastering. That choices were made not to compress or limit much (if at all) or EQ much (if at all) are inde...

As far as filling bits... This record was made in 1991 I think... "Intended to be listened to on vinyl"... and all that. I wonder what it might sound like with a new A/D transfer through todays converters... And really, I am just surprised that it doesnt seem to be mastered at all...by todays standa...

Is Slint's "Spiderland" unmastered?
I was attempting to master some stuff that I recorded for a band, who werent going to have it mastered properly. I dragged a buncha stuff into the mastering session to use as reference and quickly wondered if Spiderland, one of my favorite records was completely unmastered!! I knew that I had to tur...

Hmm... I dont make my clients sign anything, and im not sure that they would agree to the idea of my ownership of this type of thing. I would LOVE to be able to use some of the drumtracks in my library for my own releases... I think the only way I could feel good about that is to ask / get them to s...

Photographers usually don't give the negatives to their clients(in some cases), only positive prints because they own the rights to the negatives. In the same regard, you own the rights to what you record, so it is up to you whether or not you want to give or sell them the original wav files. Perso...

I've had the same thing happen to me, and I've learned to roll with it. When they tell you they bought a DIGI02 or whatever, tell 'em you'll help get it running for them. Offer to mix their tracks. Offer to master their tracks. Offer to listen to their tracks and give advice on how it might sound b...

"Never, EVER, EVER record audio files to your boot disk. If you DO, you're asking for trouble." While I agree that this is ill advised, it never stopped me from recording on my laptop (5400 RPM) when I didnt have an external FW to use. Additionally, I screwed up the other day and setup a 16 channel...

Man... After having to wait like 15 minutes for a GC employee to talk a poor bastard into buying an epiphone acoustic, and then every useless accessory know to man, extra strings, tuner, kapo, slide, picks and a can of that that crappy "fret ease" stuff, I finally got his attention. "Hey Dude." "Hey...

Had to open it up, unplug the ribbon cable, turn it on, turn it off, and then it was recognized. THEN... It stopped responding to this stuff too. I ha...
