hey chris- I dont know what the story is with most of the tascam prosumer decks, you have to take them apart to get to the EQ controls so far as I know. Ive never set one up so dont think I can be that much help. If you could post what the rec/playback eq controls are perhaps someone can help. Not a...

not all electronics can bias everything, if you dont have enough bias current you are out of luck. bummer. Put up a reel of tape, feed it 10k and see where you are at. It is doubtful that people do this for every reel of tape. It is also much more of an issue for me personally on a reel of tape that...

Soundguy is correct, but heres the deal-- If its your machine, and youre the only guy using it---youll be fine to keep it periodically aligned. Its not rocket science, and a db down at 10k on a coupla channels is pretty trivial. If you feel that a full dB down at 10K is "trivial" please disregard e...

if all you want to do is amplify download some of the operational notes that usually come in the datasheets for the opamps you have access to. Manufacturers will often show some suggested circuits which you could adopt into a mic pre on the cheap. Thats basically how the 1176 was designed, around th...

people... you need to rebias for every single reel of tape you put up on your machine. If you cant handle that, you ABSOLUTELY need to rebias anc cal for every different lot number at least. I put up a post here a few months back while I was in the middle of a melt down with a lot of bad tape I got ...

It would just be nice if people wouldnt pretend they know things they dont. Its ok not to know things. Your post obviously reeks of someone with zero experience or zero retention, take your pick. Perhaps you'd like to enlighten the audience on what type of frame numbers are present on mag stock? Tha...

I would bet a small stack of bills that Elvis probably couldnt stop a tape machine if it was in play, but the guy sure knew how to make amazing songs. He could write, he could perform, he could look good for the ladies, he could sell the image to the press. More importantly, he didnt even write ever...

dude, you got some good reference on this thread, but the only way to apply an EQ is to turn the knob and listen to what it does. period. depending upon how you build your mix (annd most importantly) what you want it to sound like, you can hipass a variety of things to make it work. Someone posted o...

they didnt invent the alternating current motor until 1968. dave It was around long before '68. yeah, no kidding, you missed my sarcasm... the film industry had been using the equivalent of capstan sync with projectors and dubbbers for a LONG time. Of course lockup took a while and it was archiac b...

like anything in post, there's a million ways to skin a cat. If you know someone into analog synths there are just a ton of ways to do that. A very pedestrian way to get close enough would be to find a repeat percussion effect and run a not through it and use that as your base to manipulate. There a...

I had always heard that glass houses was mixed on a later MCI console, however I dont know, I wasnt there and really, half the stuff I "heard" is wrong anyway. That album kinda has an MCI feel to it though, so figure Id pass that along... All his records have that same kind of similar vibe to them, ...

I posted a long thing on this subject a long time ago, every time I see this subject I chuckle. If you are going to use limiting anywhere, you need to develop a technique to use it. I think, actually Im positive, that the bulk of comments about not liking mix buss compression come from people that h...
