I'm willing to bet that this is an early Dictabelt recorder, if you pull out those cylinders there will most likely be a belt with grooves cut into it.

I have two of these... http://www.cuttingarchives.com/vintage- ... s/16478806

Re: misadventures with levelars

alright folks, so i got these two in, today. plugged them in, and immediately noticed that they we're close to being level, in output. popped the top and noticed that they had put old USA made JAN Phillips 12AT7s(which was funny, since the manual said they came with 12AX7s). I assumed that they jus...

Well, the transport and heads are considerably better in something like a Nakamichi Dragon, with better bias adjustments, tracking, and noise reduction. But it's still a cassette, so there's that. Of course, I've been going through some old rehearsal tapes where we just sent a board mix into a tape ...

i feel like it just lost some sparkle or some depth since. it still works. as far as the motor should i be worried about it running too long? It's a brushless motor so the only thing that can wear out is the bearings and they're replaceable. There's some electronics in there, but I think $10 could ...

darlington how do you know if your tape heads have worn. my unit was left on for like a week... it definitely lost a lot of that sparkle. but i think its primarily the tape. what do you think some damages could be and how i could rejuvenate my unit? I would try a good head cleaning and demagnetizin...

Has it ever occurred to you that I am not just speaking to experienced users or to you alone? Would you like me to edit my original post to include the question "Hey bros, do you think I could make a better recording with a 688 or a new iMac and Mbox?" so as to appropriately trigger your response? ...

So how I'm understanding this is that the tech bypassed the amp so you could directly power the speakers through the crossover. Is this correct? I don't remember what the impedance of leslie speakers are but I'm going to bet that it's an 8 ohm horn and an 8 ohm 15 wired parallel to give you 4 ohms. ...

That reminds me, I keep meaning to test the MP105 that way ... I have one of those that I did all the tweaks to. I think it's a pretty great pre for things like that. I generally don't DI guitars, but when I feel like playing in cans I plug into that so it won't bother my wife. It does sound good a...

I absolutely love mine. I modded the tone stack a bit to make the highs a little less fizzy and set it up for remote switching.

Have you checked to see how freely the bearing moves? It's the one that the felt tension spring presses against.

Are you talking about this happening with or without the tape? If it's WITH the tape, I would suspect the tape is sticking to the heads. If it's WITHOUT the tape I would suspect either too much pressure from the pinch roller solenoid (a google search turns up the service notes and how to adjust this...
