Actually, he is. What he's saying is that recordings themselves were a consumer fad. Records are now art for collectors, patrons and the rich. They're not something everyone HAS TO HAVE anymore. Wow. I have to give you credit for coming up with an argument that I hadn't actually heard yet. But, it'...

There's got to be a system besides "copyright" that can allow "artists" to make a living. Tell me why. Please. I'm serious. This comes up all the time around here and I have yet to see anyone make a compelling argument against copyright. they can't sing 'happy birthday' at TGIFridays (or any other ...

Wow, that's a neat idea.

Licensing might be an issue, in terms of finding content for the site.
Especially since you're not hosting the mixes.

Maybe look into optional creative commons licensing and get in cahoots with a site like ccmixter.

Look forward to trying it out though. Neato project!

Nowadays overdubbing is (almost) unanimously accepted as part of the process of recording a song. Yeah, the same song that was written and has always been sung accompanied at the same time with the performer's instrument is now going to be separated out and recorded individually. I don't know about...

When I want to do this I use a multi band compressor. Yeah I was just stopping by this thread to say that's what I do in Logic as well .. with the multipressor plugin ... just set up a set of aux sends and solo the band you want on each. Works pretty good and you could bounce the bands separately i...

It's a bit too rocking and dry, maybe... I eve hear some like Peter Gabriel ethnic-ish percussion, but not rocking drums. I think I'm struggling on that because it's 6/8 ... I mean I can wrap my head around that part of it, but it's like this lilty-swingy vaguely Gaelic thing ... it's surprisingly ...

yeah ... that electric strumming + distressed/cheap sounding mono organ sound intro reminded me of "melon collie ..." era pumpkins. I was kinda disappointed that it didn't unfold into a massive climax of distorted guitars, bashing cymbals and strings and snarky, nassaly vocals. but hey ... the 90's ...

I kind of wonder about using a more orchestra based arrangement (timpanis, etc). . I was just taking up Nick's suggestion to listen to some Enya, and the same thing occurred to me. That chick has almost no drums at all, the rhythm is just new-agey plucky delays and chanting. That'd be a hard sound ...

thanks Nick!
MUCH appreciated.

Enya ... that's actually huge help.
I was just sitting here thinking to myself "what in the hell is out there that even sounds like this that I could reference?"

gonna call up my drummer tonight and see if he can lay down some brushes.

any other suggestions?

request for critiques (producer needs perspective)

I did not write this song. it's a very long story. The short version of it is that this is my boss's girlfriend's song (though I didn't know she was dating him at the time I agreed to work on it). In any case, she sent me the acapella, and I did the rest. I need this to be good. For a lot of reasons...

you could always midi it up.
get a nice string library to get the "ensemble" aspect he was looking for, then mix the real cello part up front on top of that so it doesn't sound so fake.

DIY Low Pass Filter for ghetto subwoofer implementation

Hi Everyone: I find myself in a Macguyver type situation. First: I'm just about broke Second: I need a subwoofer for mixing What I have: - A Roland KC-550 keyboard amp (actually pretty nice, great bass guitar amp too) - A PreSonus inspire 1394 cheapie FW interface - Some fair-to-middlin' Tapco power...
