thanks for the info y'all. ALICE - i lust for this mic. i heard some samples of this and was amazed. ROOM FREQUENCIES - Yeah, it might be the room, but it's also the quietest room I've got. How would I dampen it? I don't know anything about sound treatment. I use an egg crate behind the mic just bec...

Vocal/GTR Mic with less 145?
So, in recording this one guy for two years, I've come to know what 145 Hz sounds like intimately. His voice and his nylon string both make plenty of this frequency. Mixing becomes a tedious process of trying very hard to take a little out of each track without over doing it, side chaining that freq...

Octava MK012 Dorsey Mod results/issues
So about a month ago I decided to dive into my 012's. I finished up without too much hassle, but I'm a little confused by the results. I know people rave about the mod, but mine seem EXTREMELY sensitive. I can exhale from 3-4 feet away, and a second later I'll get a really intense buffering sound fo...

I have no problem with the low end myself. Can you tell us about how you mixed this? The Distant sounds are plate-y sounding. Am I wrong? To be honest, I don't really remember much about the actual settings. I'm not a huge fan of plate verbs, personally, but I might have put some on backing electri...

Re: Mr. Bill
Is this thing actually available somewhere? ...or is Bill just selling 'em at shows?. sg Bill just got another small run printed, but they're pretty limited. If anyone is interested in a copy, you can shoot him an email at bill@billpatton.net. Sigrant probably gets one for free because you recorded...

Mike, what is the synthy sounding theremin sound? I have a sneaky suspicion I recognize it. I bought a Heathkit signal generator at an electronics repari shop closeout and have been trying to find applications for it for a long time. If it is, well played, those things are difficult to peg a melody ...

Yeah, I was surprised, actually, at how good it came out. Since that record, I've acquired a mess of new gear. I modded some Octava MK012s, got a Presonus Eureka, RNC/RNP, just finished building a Hamptone JFET, picked up a Fender Princeton Reverb ... getting excited to see how it'll all fit togethe...

So I've been lurking in the background of TapeOp world for a few years now without saying much and I've learned a ton from it. I thought I'd share what I've done with the tips, knowledge and ideas you guys have spread. We're getting ready to start a second record. http://www.bplr.com/bill_patton.htm...

I'm selling them for $250. A couple small scratches, but otherwise in great condition. I'm in Seattle, and I won't ship them.

Re: You know what mic is the biggest piece of shit?
you should check out the studio projects C1 for a bargain large diaphragm. i picked one up for $200 new.
though they can be a little hot on the top and bottom, they seem to flatten out a bit when you back off of them. and they work great on voice, kick/drum knee high, acoustic guitar etc. etc...

Re: the Mysterious DC Offset
Add theremin to the list of instruments that just record like that, tho. --JES but WHY? WHY? WHY? trumpet, theremin, accordian ... does anyone know what the mechanics are behind this phenomenon? and also ... i recorded some monologue today with one mic for a guy with a deep voice. i wanted to see w...

the Mysterious DC Offset
So, I've searched for info on this all over the web and throughout the TapeOp conference, and no one seems to have the answers I'm looking for. Clue #1: I first started pondering while listening to my own voice through a Presonus Eureka into a Digi002 and monitoring it through my headphones. I found...
