Still a work in progress, so I haven't heard the whole shabang in mono yet. So far the balance seems pleasing.. Might be a couple of weeks before their bass player and vocalist come in to lay their tracks, but I'll post mp3' s when it's done. If it get's too messy I'll back off some of the tracks, b...

$30 QuickLock Mic Stand + $2.50 5 lbs dumbells from wallmart on each leg.

$37.50 Haven't tipped one over yet... knock on wood. I've decided though sand bags would probably be more effective.

Ah, what the hell, maybe I should've kept it to myself. I guess I went a little crazy with the diagrams and what not.. I could describe effectively in words the varying axis among the mics. Then I realized I could just take post a pic.. The pics are rather unusual looking, I know. The funny thing is...

Hmmm, throughout my entire ITB life the only plugin that I've used and never given up on is the TC Natives reverb plugin. I have certain favorites now, and had had others in the past, but I've just realized that's the one plugin that never disapoints me, get's used on at least one track in almost ev...

Oh, sorry, can't help you there, I've got a Roland keyboard, but nothing fancy, no controllers or anything.. I do have a great MIDI foot controller for my guitar rig, and I'm looking to get a MIDI controller for my Cubase rig, but I doubt any of the controllers I've been looking at would be ideal fo...

What kind of controller are you looking for? DAW controller, fx, or what? Also, if it's for your DAW what system are you using?

Well, I own the POD XT Pro. As far as replicating the units it claims to emulate, I give it an F. It's a great contrast to mix with miked cabs, but I've rarely been able to use it on it's own.. I own 2 units which sound great when recorded direct, The Mesa Studio preamp, and a Rocktron Chameleon (IM...

I posted a thread about phase problems and imaging last night, go find it. There's a pic of my TapeOp ribbon mic placed distant on a guitar cab. Or just look below, you may have to scroll right to see it, it's the bluish-grey mic hung up-side-down. http://hometown.aol.com/primestudios/InfusionPics/G...

Ross Robinson suspended a guitar amp under a grand piano and set a weight on the sustain petal for a song on Korns second album.

Oh yeah, I had the guitarist playing on a stool behind the cab, I placed a cardioid LDC back side facing the back of the cab in hopes to blind out the amplified signal to focus on the guitarists picking, which worked well, however the bleed through from behind the cab actually mixed very pleasantly....

Phase Issues?? No, Let's call it Phase Imagine..

For the project I'm currently recording I've decided to get very experimental. I'm using tons of mics, I figure if I encounter any problems I can just use that high tech solution known as 'mute' on conflicting tracks. I set up 4 mics on a guitar cabinet. 1 Ribbon , 1 Dynamic, and 2 condesnsers. I pl...

It's so simple, yet so effective..

Once I put a 57 on a ride because my mic options were so limited, and you know what.. I loved it.. Haven't had a reason to change yet - when I mic a ride I just grab a 57 without second thought. Up close, off axis under the bell.

OK, seriously guys, go download the trial verson of Izotope Ozone 3. I'd link you to it but I'm too lazy, just hit google, or look for the mastering software thread. It will get things cranked quite well. I've use L2 a million times, but I stopped using it when I recorded a country band. It just rui...

Maybe try a comp with a side chain eq set to the low end and squash the lows pretty good, then add another compressor with a lower ratio to help the overall track stay put. This has worked for me in the past. I agree, it's hard to capture a lot of lows without getting too muddy. You could also use ...
