For putting a little "glue" on a quick song demos, I'm quite fond of Ozone's reverb -- just 8% or so sprinkled on the whole mix really adds a nice subtle cohesiveness....

NPR did a webcast of a Ritter live show last night from the 9:30 club in DC -- 'tis making my cubicle a much better place this morning.

I'm curious about trying these out in less-than-perfect recording situations -- What do you expect shipping costs would be? How big/bulky is the box?

I like this tune -- checked out the band's myspace. I dig it. Nice sounds here -- it doesn't sound "busy" to me, but I might give you "hollow." First thoughts, the mix seems to lean to the right, with the fiddle and the backing vox living there. As opposed to kinger, I'm inclined to bring the backin...

Nice laid back vibe -- the arrangement and sounds certainly achieve "vintage" to my ears. Good sounds, and a tasteful mix.

Per this discussion, I went and picked this disc up over the weekend. Golly, what a great disc. Great songs, great production. I'm proud to say I've shared a stage with the man.

I'll second the nod to the sound of a good Kay -- our upright player uses one from the 50s. He's lefty, so he's had the top removed and the soundpost flipped. It sounded good to start with, but post-lefty surgery it is a powerhouse.

I do like the suggestion of acquiring both a workhorse LDC (take a look at the Pelusos) and a ribbon for your applications. Maybe a SDC (pair?), too.

Re: Not a bad Cliff Note....

Occasionally, a Sweetwater Tech Tip is actually useful... While true that not every Sweetwater Tech Tip is groundbreaking, I am a huge fan of Sweetwater in general -- their customer service is, in my experience, nothing short of extraordinary. And they do it without charging a premium or selling lo...

Re: Questions on non-digital/acoustic songwriting methods!

1) When you sit down with your chosen instrument with the intention of composing or experimenting, what normally happens? Do you start by playing particular/familiar chords, melodies? How do you try to access your creative instinct? If I sit down with the intention of writing, often times that back...
