record already then
sounds like you're doing it already. You're at a big advantage, having and playing those instruments. One secret behind a good recording is always a good musical arrangement, so it sounds like you are training your ears to hear and understand those instrument's roles in music, and their place in mus...

oooo, 1176!!!
if you CAN possibly afford an 1176, DO IT DO IT!!! It will always and always make your recording experience a little more fun. and now is a wonderful time for it. I have 2 1176's I obtained over the years BEFORE there were these wonderful re-issues. I spent 1200 on a silver 1176ln about 6 years ago,...

the ice cream man, the one with the cart who sells mexican paletas, (NOT the ice cream truck) he used to have CHILE popsicles, and they were AMAZING!!! It's kind of a generic fruit base, with chunks of pineapple and maybe some melon, but there's also a serious DOSE of chile powder, and SALT!! it was...

Re: Techs in Austin or anywhere
there aint SQUAT in austin, tech-wise. I send my stuff to a dude in arizona, and he takes a year to fix it. you know who I would ask? Steven Hennig at heart of texas music on south lamar. (ray's oldest son) he's been around forever, he deals in pro audio stuff, and last time I talked to him, he was ...

what YOU need is CHOCOLATE!!!
I think, before noise reduction or noise gate/expanders, you should probably just mute channels during mixdown when they're not in use, or spot erase tracks when they're not playing music. I mean when they aren't supplying NEEDED noise.
you don't need more equipment for all that...

Re: I'm typing in the dark. How do you get rid of the black?
This (new) board doesn't work with aol. If I want to post, and I don't want to type in a black space, I use internet explorer. I don't think hillary knows about this problem. ( I told her about it, and she asked me what browser I was using, but I never wrote her back and told her aol use exposed the...

bob "guitar" mould
well bobby, spot lives here in austin, (as did bob mould for a while) and spot told me that, at some point "the" bob mould guitar sound was (among other things) a guitar through a harmonizer with the dry guitar panned to one side, and the harmonized guitar (set to the most minimal harmonization, whi...

YMG!! LIVE IN BERKELEY, 1980!!!

I've never heard collossal youth on disc, but I don't remember it sounding "thin" on lp. minimal as can be, though. does anyone remember "inflatable boy clams"?? I think they were a bay area based 4 piece female band...

BEASTS in the studio!!!
just continuing on an old topic... a few minutes ago I was splicing some paper leader tape between a couple of mixes ( I'd been mixing for 45 minutes or so), and suddenly a big (5-6") green gecko calmly walks out from under my take-up reel, wriggles across the transport, and slips underneath the fee...
