I love the zoom - use it all the time - search past posts and you will find a lot of discussion about the zoom h4 and the new h4n. It is easy to use, upload/import audio files, select frequency and bit rates, and accpets 1/4 inch plugs, XLR and comes with its own high quality built in mics.

Not sure if you thought of this ? I installed car stereo systems in my youth and there is a huge industry of also modifying the car to handle the high volumes (front windshields were known to pop their seal and fly out with all that pressure). You might try some message boards of car audio groups. I...

Curious as to how much money he was able to raise for recording. Heard on one of the Angels of Light cds he morgaged his house to pay for studio time.

How well do you know Tape Op letters page and/or interviews?

Odd request... I am looking for a quote from a Tape Op article. It was "all I hear are the mistakes." It would have originally been in an interview and was quoted in the letters section in a subsequent issue. I don't have access to all my Tape Op issues where I currently live and was hoping someone ...

The one thing that stood out to me was that most of the music they played that consisted of sampled music was pretty much unlistenable (in my opinion). I guess some people think it's cool to play 5 pop songs at the same time and call that a work of art. Good for them, but I'm not buying it. However...

IndependentLens: Copyright Criminals - TV program discussion

Anyone catch this on PBS? Steve Albini was a standout for me - dead-on contempt with appropriate disregard of artistic ability to take a sample vs make music. The position of the director seemed to lean towards the benefit/art of sampling and how copyright holds back the artistic freedom - with mild...

Michael Gira announces he is bringing back SWANS - UPDATE

On Young God Records website and his MySpace page. http://younggodrecords.com/News/Detail/?C=2323 In my youth I?d thought I knew music and had some tastes ? but in 1997 heard the Soundtracks for the Blind album. Combined with a collapse of the person I had built myself to be up to that time period, ...

what has worked for me - best advice, use your ears just like any other recording. Listen for engines, motors, and other mechanical sounds in everyday environments that others ignore or let slip into the ambient noise that they don't hear. If a machine or sound has a music quality to it then you sho...

I'm just about certain that he [timcoalman] wasn't complaining about studios passing on the expense of renting gear for sessions to clients. I'm pretty sure that he was referencing studio owners who nickel and dime their clients to the point of charging a dollar to use an in-studio eBow. Exactly wh...

My turn to back off and apologize - I took Brian's comments as being directed at me when I read them. As such, I did go on the defensive thinking it appropriate. I responded in public because the post was public, but in reading Brian's response he is right - should have PM him to clarify. Obviously ...

Absolutely. I get the majority of new, unreferred clients as a result of my website. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC that and being on Tape op message board... I've been on the board only a short time, but I get a good feel for who to trust and who to run away from (i.e. people expecting money for each ...

Here is what I am working on. Long term project - a few years in on it now. I think I need more "TurnTable Scratch 15" and my wife says the "Electro Horn Hits 02" are childish.
