Re: FENDER HOT ROD DEVILLE
I had one and they can be excellent. I used to get compliments on it all the time at shows, from guy playing boutique amps no less. Here's how to get the goodness: ONLY use the clean channel. Period. This amp LOVES pedals. Anything I threw in front of it sounded great. DS-1, Analog delays, Jeckyl an...

Re: distorting the vocal
sparklehorse uses a stereo bar, with one mic going to a boss distortion. find the distortion level you want, record both. mix to taste. works real well. I'm not sure if that's a typo, but just to get this straight.....put up two mics next to each other, run one to a pre and then tape and the other ...

distorting the vocal
I've been sort of suspicious of the whole "distorted vocal" thing ever since the Strokes. It's kind on most albums I hear these days, it seems. Anyway, I finally gave in and did me some experiment last night. I put up a 57 and dimed the input and output of the pre (Studio Projects VTB-1), and tried ...

How does Grandaddy et al get that blipity-blip sythy sound?
I love albums that provide this kind of "ear candy" but I'm new to syths and fun little sounds. I'd love some direction.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Favorite bass guitar
I picked up this '78[?] Univox p-bass copy that kicks ass about two years ago. for $100! It's a nice sunburst with a black pickguard and maple neck. The only things that bug me are that it's neck heavy, which drives me crazy, and somebody outfitted the thing with active pickups, but they sounds grea...

Re: Need photographer for Vanderslice interview tonight!

I'm actually hoping it'll be half as cool as tape op, but i'm finding the devil really is in the details. At any rate, at the last minute I found a friend who could do it. the show rocked vanderslice w...

Wiring a speaker to be a mic?
I just picked up (free, even) and 18 inch Cervin-Vega speaker which was extracted from a sense-around setup from a movie theater...you know, from the 70's, used for movies like Earthquake, so you could feel that sub 40hz rumble. Anyway, I picked it up hoping to wire it so I could use it to "mic" bas...
