I played a very fun, very cold concert last Sunday. I posted the pics and songs on our web site here:

signal path
So, the little audio-in jack on Mac Book Pros and iMacs is actually an optical in. This makes it really easy to use one of these: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-THIN-TOSLINK-MINIPLUG-THINTOSMIN6/dp/tech-data/B00016W6Y6 to go from a converter like the BLA MK2 Sparrow to a DAW. I'd love to hear fr...

Epic show...
First of all, I can't thank everyone enough for the great wisdom. This is a great community. Banjo player left the new toy at home and played wonderfully. So, the gig went off like this: the day before the show I received word that the other warm-up band had a "scheduling conflict" and wouldn't be p...

BLA MK2 Black, Red and White
Just wondering about your educated thoughts on these:

Am I correct that these only have SPDIF out? If so, how best can I get the signal from it to my DAW? Many thanks.

Another good point. I'll call him to get together.Snarl 12/8 wrote:you really, really shouldn't be handling something this sensitive via email. He should be seeing the concern in your eyes, and vice versa.

thank yous
Thanks for this. Yes, I see. Maybe we just need to set up the preamp properly, so that the louder volume isn't screechy. I'll have a look at it tonight I think.

How best to explain to the banjo player...
So the banjo player gets a new toy; a stomp box that allows him to raise and lower his own volume on stage. At our last gig, this resulted in the most hideous, chill down the spine inducing, calamity I've ever encountered. Every time he pressed it, the only thing being amplified was the sound of his...

Air for recording...
Yep, you are probably right. I still wonder how the flash drive would perform. I'm assuming that the read / write times would be much better... unless there's a technical issue I'm not aware of.

MacBook Air Updated
I wonder how the new MacBook Air would perform for recording. Specifically, I'm wondering how the flash memory, instead of a hard drive, would perform. Certainly, the lack of connectivity, i.e. no firewire, is a downer. But at the $999 price point, it's tempting.

SOLD FS Neumann TLM 103
I have a Neumann TLM 103 that I've used maybe three times since buying it new. It comes with hard case (with foam configured for a pair), Neumann shock mount and manual. Super quiet, large diaphragm, transformer-less, sounds great. Asking $950. Includes shipping.

Ha!
Funny! And it's great how you are all confirming things we discussed while recording. Thank you. That new banjo is really loud. The banjo player was sitting in a chair, down below the mic and about 5 feet away. The mic was placed a little below fiddle level for the short fiddle player, and she was r...
