Well of course it's not it. You might as well have measured the cat.snatchman wrote:Well....I opened up the Rat Shack EQ......it aint gonna happen... ..Just #4558s and the normal "crap" that smears audio passing thru it...!.. .. It's the 10 band EQ tho'.

As I understand it, it didn't do very well on the consumer market because it was way too honest an eq, in addition to the sound of the transformer. People didn't know what to make of it. I also heard that there were some serious issues interfacing it with consumer stereo gear, as opposed to studio g...

there's a silver face on eboy right now for US$5. I saw it. Kind of f-ing POINTLESS, until I can get the search function to unearth the directions to mod it. Or if someone knows more? By the time I do, it will be so gone though. $5 is ridiculous. The guy selling it has absolutely no idea what he's ...

Besides, this is radioshack we are talking about. They would have made hundreds of thousands of these units. Wouldn't they? Besides, don't you ...

actually, my uncle is the one who performed the modifications (he's an EE at Raytheon), but he's got a pretty hectic schedule. OTOH, he only followed some instructions my cousin found with a quick Google search. he did have to "fix" a few things cos, in his opinion, the guy who came up with the mod...

oh, and there's this mod that involves replacing the ceramic caps with mylar ones and one or two opamps that can be changed out. i'll ask him about it if anyone's interested. I am, kind of. I'm still looking to buy one, maybe pay someone to do the mods. I've heard that it's credited on so many good...

I remember something about that, but can't seem to find it with the search function. Do you remember what it was called, or how I can find the thread?eeldip wrote:if you wanted the 207 track to sound nicer, you could use something even so lowly as that radio shack EQ thingy that everyone seems to love.

I dont bother. When I first got an HD3 rig, I went nuts and recorded like 7 million gb of acoustic stuff. Too bad that was one song.. ;) I have never done a session with enough elements @ 192 to even really care at all. 88.2 gets me way up outside the nyquist filters that I DO care about, but beyon...

Is it just me, or is autotune nothing like a transparent effect at this stage? It seems that I hear it ALL THE TIME, and it is always blatantly obvious that it is there. Is this on purpose ("ooh, look see how we can sound like that wretched Cher song"), or is it just the nature of the beast? You ar...

Both the programs being discussed are 'in the DAW' tools.Knights Who Say Neve wrote:You might be better off working with the tracks in the DAW than messing with bargain basement "mastering" products. Careful compression and EQ there will take you pretty far, and you'll have much finer control over the process.

a combo of a Pultec and an 1176 (just barely compressing, if any) I was about to suggest the same with LA2A in place of the 1176. It's not so much that this sounds like tape as much as it frequently sounds good to my ears. As far as the plugs that claim to sound like tape... I think people are chas...
