I would say get one set and learn those well. Cross reference your mixes with CD's you like on those speakers to get to know them better. I'm using a Hafler XL-280 amp to power mine.
It's an older amp so finding one might be a little tough.

I've got the Russian one and was able to test it next to a new model before purchasing. In my case the russian one was better by about 32%.

(Just kidding on the percentage...the Russian model just sounded better through the rig I was using at the store. It had a deeper growl to it.)
