Hell yeah. I know an article/interview is good when I want to make other people read it. Bob Johnston is a badass. The stuff about working with Johnny Cash was great and his accounts of how lame the people in charge of record labels can be (particularly CBS) is stuff every musician should be aware o...

Inside Out - folk rock / bluegrass

Recorded an album for a local band. Guitar, mando, upright bass, drums. dobro on one track and pedal steel on another. 99% of the instruments were done live in one room. Nice to do something different from most of the stuff I've recorded before (mostly metal). Their stuff ranges from "rockgrass" to ...

Yeah for some reason my iPod really does not like wavs. On different occasions, I've had weird glitchy noises, skipping, slower responding buttons and all out freezes. This is on a 160bg Classic that is only a few months old. Main reason I got a bigger iPod was to start keeping higher resolution mus...

False.

On a related note, does anybody else's iPod freak out when you try to play .wav files on it?

Some sludgy thash metal shit I recorded probably 5 years ago on a 424 mkII. Guitar, bass and drums live and loud in one room. Bounced and overdubbed vox with a 58. This version is absolutely smashed. I might have done that with Cubase or somethin back then. <object height="81" width="100%"> <param><...

Relatively recent: Blotted Science - Machinations of Dementia: crazy instrumental technical stuff that takes a big shit on most other "shreddy" bands. Features Alex Webster on bass. Soilent Green - their last two records Confrontation and Inevitable... are heavy as shit. Hate Eternal - I, Monarch Go...

Banjo Gurdy

Some stuff I recorded a while back with a couple friends. Hey thanks for the comments and suggestions. There are definitely some issues with gating; not just on the snare but on other tracks too. There was a lot of stuff that seemed fine during tracking and ended up sucking when it came time to mix. The snare is a big one. Instead of the top/bottom thing t...

Yeah. I liked the whole tune but for some reason the way the cymbals and stuff hit the reverb at the end did it for me. I actually got a similar result at the end of this tune: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9063440 but yours sounds cooler.

Thanks for pointing that out. Apparently Soundclick sucks? It definitely was not mixed down in mono and the other track I put on that site (a noise remix of a different tune) plays back in stereo. I'll see what the deal is.

Some ridiculous death metal

EDIT: Umm yeah, apparently Soundclick does suck. Like mp3s aren't bad enough, lets make 'em mono! Here's another track I put on SoundCloud: http://soundcloud.com/neal-stein/haunted-by-nothing http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8726696 A track off my band's album that came out earlier this year. All ...

Sounds great. Thanks for putting up the pics of mic placement and stuff. I still kinda wonder how the blumlein sitting that low doesn't cause a bunch of phase problems with the overheads... but hey, it obviously works! I would love to be able to check Electrical audio some time.

Nice work. I had to listen to it a couple times. I like the sound at the very end of expect resistance.
