Re: Rode Mics
Yeah, I had an NT-1 for while too. It wasn't bad for some things...I also liked it for (crunchy) acoustic guitar track. Crappy overhead, unless applied effect-like maybe.

Rode Mics
Hi there, folks. Just curious...a couple of those Rode mics seem fairly nice and surprisingly well-received. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with either the NTK or the Classic II. The Classic is like, a grand, but they claim it's believably U47-ish...could it be? I know Rode doesn't ...

Re: Poll: Will CD's become obsolete? By when?
I don't know, it's starting to heat up again. I just posted a boring thread (in the Mp3 section) about the new Itues 4 music service, which sells every song in the world for $.99 compressed at Mp4. The new stuff sounded identical to their 16bit uncompressed counterparts (well, for the most part), wh...

Re: stapes vs. the ghetto army
I feel super lucky to have gotten one of the last pairs of the recent Stapes runs. It's my "go-to" mic for anything that small diaphrams are the natural choice. They don't work on everything, and I'll still put a 57 on a guitar before I do a stapes, but they're great, great overheads and general pur...

Itunes music service
This is a little off-topic, but I felt compelled to bring it up. I don't know why. Last night, I downloaded Itunes 4, as I use version 3 constantly for a compute jukebox, burning cds, etc. I was blown away by the new Apple "music store." It's so ridiculously easy to use, the quality is decent (save ...

Re: Tape, or not to tape... that is the question...
The spot you're in sounds familiar and a little Jacob's Ladder-esque. I longed for tape after being on computer for a couple of years. I'd started recording on 1/2 " at a friend's studio, and I had fond, fond memories, too. So I went and got a 1/4" four track (3440) just to see. And yeah, it sounded...

Re: Mixing to a computer
Yeah, I'd definitely be looking at 192. I think there's already a stereo 192 I/O in the sub $300 made by Ego-Sys...yep. I can't wait to hear 192.

Re: Mapex Drums experience?
I had the distinct displeasure of playing at the Viper Room some years back, and the house kit (that I used) was a Mapex. I was originally very afraid, but was amazed at how warm the kick and toms were. The snare was even round and crisp. I thought that kit sounded huge. Just my .02.
