GS has a lot of idiots who think they are audio experts. The signal-to-noise ratio is far better here.

I watched Lawrence Welk with my grandparents I watched Hee Haw with my parents I couldn't decide which was cornier  When I heard a real orchestra in person that was when I realized that LW was too "Hollywood". As I progressed in life, I realized that almost nothing of TV reflected true life so ...

I've made some really good recordings on my Tascam 246. Channels have two sweepable EQs and two FX busses and the routing is pretty flexible. It has a 2x tape speed for better fidelity and the direct tape outputs are handy for using an external board with better processing options. Owned it new sinc...

A good mix should sound good at ANY dB level, whether it is 85dB or 40dB. I've heard plenty of mixes that were awful because they were "mastered" at 85dB. Your ears fatique quicker at that level and you can't make rational mix judgements. After I finish a mix, my acid test is the car radio. I listen...

I did an inventory on a spreadsheet that listed purchased price as well as serial #, etc. Then I decided to check the grand total of the purchase price. I was quite sobered to find it was excess of $80K. And I'm RENTING my living space. That single discovery killed my GAS and I now am saving $$$ for...

I got two 7110s and they sound fine. Great on drums, bass, vocals, and they pass the acid test - program material with mix of percussive and steady state signals.

Modulars are best at monophonic sounds.

If you're doing a polyphonic modular for pads, it is really unmanageable because you have to patch and tweak every module to sound alike.

If you want a polyphonic with modular-style modulations (essential for pads), get an Alesis Andromeda.

If you want ground lift, not all active DIs have it. Passive DIs with transformer isolation are 100% ground isolation between two devices.

If you want use the weighted keyboard as a MIDI controller, do not select the Yamaha P series or derivatives. They can do MIDI note on/off and that's about it. They're a pain to configure for splits and layers.

Eventide Harmonizers are extremely complex devices. I do not recommend self repair. StudioElectronics.biz can repair vintage Eventides, they know what is going on inside these things.

http://hammer.ampage.org/files/EMMHarmoGen.PDF Pretty crude. Output signal is a square wave, not the original timbre. Pitch shifting is discrete - unison, 3rd, 5th, and up to three octaves. No in between or micropitch shifting. It is a textbook PLL pitch shifter, basically an RF design adapted for ...

I have played Hammonds for decades. The Leslie needs a room for the sound to develop. Nothing like a live Leslie that sounds 3D in a live room.

Mic the rotors up close and you lose everything the Leslie is all about.

I like the sound of ARPs but am not fond of them for two reasons: 1) Slidepots. The lubrication tends to dry out and the pots get sticky. New replacements are near impossible to find. They can be disassembled and re-lubed but it is a major PITA. 2) Tantalum capacitors. Back in the 70s they were stat...
