...I did a mod exactly like the Joly mod to my Oktava 319 and it is amazing. I bought the mic for $100 and the parts for the mod cost around $40... I'm sure you're enjoying improved performance from your 319. But its unlikely your work is exactly like an OktavaMod upgrade because I've never publish...

...I purchased my electronics mod kit from this guy. I believe it's similar to what Joly does... Not really. There are quite a few OktavaMod differences my clients benefit from: *Award-winning Engineering - All OktavaMod upgrades offer the same engineering excellence that led Electronic Musician Ma...

...Also, I did confirm something with Mr. Joly himself -- the 'Ultimate 603' mod is not required (or recommended) for the MJE-K47H head on a 603-type body. The electronics upgrade is recommended, but the vents on the ultimate mod are not effective for the SDC mod. hey KM, I have to clarify your com...

Hey Kingmetal, thanks for the encouraging words and vote of confidence! You know, in the midst of the day-to-day process of doing what Meryl and I do here we sometimes forget how we're viewed by our clients and prospects. Your very kind comments are a helpful reminder of the values we hope people ex...

This is K67-type condenser capsule, FET (Field Effect Transistor) front end mic. The specs do not state if it uses a transformer or not. At the volume TnC was buying they would not have been offered a proprietary mic. That happens at around 15,000 units / year depending on vendor. So most likely thi...

Nice clear pics of the K67-type capsule (4-then-6 hole pattern at the edge visible) So if that mic has a 'soft top' perhaps the electronics have HF de-emphasis as was intended for the intentionally-bright K67-type capsule. This would be rare but welcome.

Almost sounds like a K47-type capsule instead of a K67-type. Can you take a picture or describe the backplate hole pattern so we can determine the capsule type? I have pics of both a K47-type and K67-type on this page.

Hmmm. It seems like yanking the mesh is a standard part of nearly any mic mods I've come across. Do manufacturers pretty much only put it in to reduce plosives in the first place, or it is ever used to deliberately shape the tonal balance? There are a number of reasons for multiple layer headbasket...

I want to get a 460 measured in an anechoic chamber soon - check on-axis freq resp at all 9 postions.

And another way to think of the polar pattern switch is "capsule-based EQ" - when the polarization is changed at the capsule the on axis response changes slightly as well as the polar pattern. So if you use something like a Real Traps Portable Vocal Booth to control the amount of room sound reaching...

oh geez. At the risk of being a total dirty marketing dog, I do have my own capsule and suite of mods for this mic. BUT...if you're a DIY'er Peluso will sell his capsules indivually, I do not - I'm just a total megalomaniac and have to be involved with every capsule of mine that gets installed ; )

Why not get an Apex 460 from Front End Audio delivered to your door in three days for $189? Use it, then decide if you wan to DIY or send it out for mods - lots of options for this mic these days.

Doh, just re-read - you're looking for an SDC tube mic right? My bad.

Actually the 990 contains a reasonable copy-attempt of a KM 84 SDC capsule driving the now-classic Schoeps-type transformerless circuit. Don't care. The stock 990 capsule overloads very, very quickly. The mic should have had a pad built-in. Without it, it's almost useless except on the quietest sou...

Actually the 990 contains a reasonable copy-attempt of a KM 84 SDC capsule driving the now-classic Schoeps-type transformerless circuit. Opening up the headbasket allows the capsule to function (on axis) more like it would in a pencil style mic and significantly improves the ability of the back of t...
