Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
I'm waiting for some kind of warrant or argument. You keep saying that after Darwin everything has changed. Show me all the historians, economists, political scientists, sociologists and anthropologists who believe that natural selection is the best principle upon which to base an analysis of socia...

Re: Compassion will kill humanity
firstly, any basic explanation of evolution (darwinian evolution, anyway) will tell you that natural selection selects for genes that meet certain ENVIRONMENTAL pressures. this means that it's not possible to "stop" evolution by altering the environment (ie: with science) ... the most we could ever...

Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
The historical apriori is like the transcendental catgories of aperception proposed by Kant. But, rather than these residing on the side of the subject (in the unaltering structures of thought - e.g. space, time and causality, etc.), the historical apriori is specific to an era and thus resides on ...

Re: tl audio ivory stuff
Don't know if this helps, but I have a HHb Radius 50 preamp/comp - HHb is the same company as TL Audio (or at least used to be, or something...). Anyway, it's decent, and has it's ups and downs. The comp is pretty passive, so it's good for a front end comp - I do most of that w/ plugins anyway. It's...

Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
Problem i suppose would be can we know everything within our given framework, and hence initiate a completely inclusive dialectic? I'm not so sure we can know everything about a problem/framework/anything...if only because our world is highly dynamic and just about everything is tied to time and pl...

Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
My point is that evolutionism is not widely accepted as the best explanatory paradigm in most of the human sciences. And evolutionism, which is often nothing more than a dressed up ideology of progress, isn't even a good rendition of Darwinian natural selection; Darwin is considerably less Pangloss...

Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
The idea that evolutionism shapes all serious thought is laughable. Tell me which key historians, economists, sociologists, philosophers, or anthropologists still believe in evolutionism as a good way of describing human life. Well, I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you asking if I can cite...

I don't know...the wireless mic is just so...so...phallic. I think every good stage show needs some kind of phallic reference.

Re: Postmodernism vs. Science
As I said, 'truth' for the pragmatist is merely what works (note in passing that Friedrich Nietzsche can be understood to have used a pragmatist definition of truth from time to time). If it pays to believe that 20th century physics is the best reason for not leaving an aeroplane at 10,000 feet the...

ASIO vs. WDM drivers?
Not sure if I know the difference. I've got an Aardvark 24/96, running into Sonar3. For whatever reason, Sonar only recognizes the Aardvark as an ASIO driver, and not a WDM (or whatever WDM-like operation Aardvark utilizes) driver. On ASIO, I'm getting digital distortion at all levels. I need help, ...

Postmodernism vs. Science
Actually it needn't be prohibitive at all. Foucault especially can be readily applicable to all kinds of 'real' world situations. I won't bore you with it, but just really quickly, his idea of power-knowledge examines how certain bodies of knowledge come to prevail over others. These become 'domina...

Very interesting...I'd like to respond, but I'd hate to take over what is an already interesting topic. Maybe we should begin another topic...say relativism vs. science or something like that?
