it's the system, not the kids (usually)
at every job i have ever worked, i've noticed good workers, and bad workers. you'll find people who enjoy their work, and are pleasant to be around. you'll also find people who make it obvious that they would much rather be doing their own thing. during my time interning / assisting, i found myself ...

a friend of mine used to act as an editor at the onanist. a non-fiction "masturbatory" (since no one's ever really going to read it) outlet. i would encourage all aspiring engineers to keep a (private, at least until you're sure you don't want to pursue a career in recording) journal of their experi...

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. Working as an assistant at the Hit Factory in NY, being on call pretty much all the time, working on music I didn't enjoy listening to, and not making anywhere near making what I though I was worth. (I also wasn't even coming close to 20$/hr, but that's ...

Re: new click sounds for PT ?
Back in the olden days, before the click plug-in existed, we would manufacture our own click track by cutting and pasting multiple hi-hat hits in grid mode. (You could certainly use another sound besides hi-hat.) It should only take a few minutes. Also, I walked to school ten miles through the snow....

Post subject: Re: Should CD's be burned at 0db?
The moral of the story is that most people are looking for a loud record, with some perceived dynamic range. That doesn't mean you can't compress (or limit) the hell out of it. What it means is that you need to do it with care. That means trying lots of different compression methods through out the ...

Re: Digi002 / Firewire Drive / Macbook issues
It's a Lacie D2. It runs at 7200. I was able to run sessions with no issues when using my Mbox, I think it has something to do with the 002 and HD sharing one FW port.

Digi002 / Firewire Drive / Macbook issues
Last night I purchased a new Digi002. I'm using it with my macbook (not pro) which has only one firewire (400) input. I tried running a session from a lacie d2 fw HD (which has 922 chipset I believe), and found my self out of luck... It said that my firewire drives was not an "audio drive." I tried ...

sampling rate vs. frequency response
You do realize those two numbers refer to completely different things, don't you? of course, however, they're certainly related. using a higher sampling rate allows for a higher high frequency cut-off (and less of a brick wall filter.) this is what makes it sound "better". if the digi002's analog i...

DIGI 002 Sampling Rate?
I was pondering whether it's worth the extra disk space 88.2 kHz requires since Digidesign's website states that the frequency range for mic and line inputs only goes up to 20khz.
