Re: ml52 manual?

At the risk of skirting copyright law, I will post the manual in full: " Oktava factory has been the main manufacturer of ribon microphones in the former USSR. Introduction of the ML-52 marks the company's return to its glorious ribbon heritage. ML-52's recommended uses include acoustic MS recording...

Re: Do you have PERFECT PITCH?

I had a friend in high school who had perfect pitch. We would test him with the analog tuner. He could tell us how close a tone was to the half-cent. He never failed, it was very twilight zone. He loved all sorts of music, Devo was his favorite band. He would listen to recordings of kabuki performan...

Re: Is anyone watching Buffy???!??!?!?!?!?!?

Oh man! Whenever I say that Willow is sweet/cute/sexy, people always think I am joking. Only on the tapeop board.

Buffy is the only show I make a point to watch. If anyone gets a show it should be Willow.

Re: poll: what do you do?

I can't break it down to percentages, but if I am not at work (graphic design for educational materials) I am either writing/recording, recording the band I am in, recording friends, skateboarding, fixing gear, or watching movies with Laura.

Re: you know who we're all missing these days?

back to the permits though, my concern is - does having proper permits not allow me to do the construction myself? (it's all going to be interior work, no structural work) what are the stipulations? i think they made it so you can't find out anything without tipping them off that you're up to somet...

Speaking of pee ...

We used to play regularly at this college party house. The bands played in the basement and the plumbing often backed up because there were so many people using in the bathroom. People got so used to it that there was a wall in the basement that guys would just pee on. You could never really smell i...

Re: delimma/question

I wouldnt agree with that statement at all. Compressors and gates and EQ's are tools that allow you to create a certain sound which has no relevancy to laziness. A "properly" mic'd drum kit will never sound like a Tchad Blake drum kit unless you have compressors and gates. This is not because someo...

Re: delimma/question

jajguy is right. Compressors, gates, eqs, reverb units, etc. are things that let you be lazy. If you mic something right, you won't need to compress it, eq it or whatever (unless you want that super-tweaked sound that you probably should go to a studio for anyway) Debt -- very bad, unless it's a hou...

Re: Tips on recording a 410 amp?

The only thing different that I have found is you need to get further away from a 4-10 cabinet to pick up how it sounds as a whole. Whenever I get close in on a cabinet, (no matter how many speakers) I have found that it is hard to have any rules except keep moving the mic around and put it where it...

Re: Studio Projects C3 or AT 4050?

I haven't tried either of those, but in that price range, I have used (and own) a CAD M179 and an M39 (less high end of the two), which are multi-pattern (continuously dial-able) large D condensers. They compare favorably to my C414, a bit more character and more flattering to vocals. The M39 can re...

Re: Patchbay Strategy Help

Here is yet another way- I have a computer setup- a motu 24i and a 2408. I have mic cables going directly to my preamps in the board with direct outs from the board wired to the patchbay which are normalled to the 24i. I also have line inputs from the board connected to the patchbay, and the group o...

Re: mackie 1202

I agree with Dave. The mackie is built to withstand a tornado, and even if you go on to get a bigger and better console later, you will probably want to keep the 1202 anyway. I have 2 that I still use even though I have a nice big desk.

Re: What to do about a loud hard drive?

I put my machine in a closet and got extension cords for the monitor and the keyboard. There is a certain length that you cannot exceed, so be a little careful with that. I don't think a cord that is too long will blow anything, so give it a try. Apple's website has tech notes on the machine you wil...
