best post ever SIDE TANGENT: Was it in Tape Op magazine or was it somewhere else? In about 1999 or 2000 I read a possibly satirical little quote from a roadie for Uriah Heep where the roadie is watching them play a gig and the drummer's bell bottom gets caught on the kick beater and the roadie jump...

Wasn't too tough to get the rings to fit, I gently trimmed them down with fine grit sanding collar on a dremel. One came out perfect, the other now fits a little loose - I'm hoping the copper tape will fix that, if not I'll have to build it up a bit which shouldn't be a big deal. I'll have to sand t...

I want to chime in here against the sansamp stuff. They work and they're easier to mix, but they also will make every bass track you ever record sound like a sansamp. I know a lot of people really love them, but to me they just sound a little sterile, generic and lifeless. Even with cleanest settin...

I just had a listen and it sounds pretty good. I dig that dirty classic punk sound and, in that context, the bass really isn't terrible or anything. Definitely has a live feel to it that I like. There's something really charming about the vocals, too. The bass sounds very subby to me, lots of thud b...

Call me crazy, call me stupid - but I'm just not a fan of the sansamp. I had one for a few days once but returned it. I'm a bass player, so maybe I'm a bit of tone snob, but to me the sansamp sounded a little sterile and generic... Then again, I really like the $30 Art toob MP's as bass DI's, so my ...

I've been using bandcamp.mu since it launched, no issues at all. I'm pretty sure they do lame encoding, so the mp3s sound pretty sweet. My only wish is that there were an easy way to embed their player into a myspace page. I really like the simplicity of bandcamp, the fact that I don't have to look ...

Thank for the replies. I normally try do use as little compression as possible when mixing. I do use some on the upper end of the bass just around where it sits with the vocals...not too much though. You might find some compression on the bottom end really tightens up the bass and helps the attack ...

Yeah, guitar is a pain in the ass, for sure - such a broadband sound, and it can be hard to get away with cutting away too much of it. I sometimes high pass the guitar and/or knock the bottom down a little with a shelf below 200ish... but other times I find that the guitar needs that low end presenc...

You can link your Facebook band page up to a Reverb Nation account which hosts music... but like I said, it's all fairly kludgy and lacks the directness and simplicity of myspace.

can't wait for myspace to become redundant, but it still seems pretty necessary - I agree with a previous poster, in that anything I get from myspace is regarded as spam. Facebook is a little better, and a little less spammy, but the "band pages" and "event pages" seem a bit kludgy and ill-conceived...

Luckily I was alone at this point, because what I said right then would have been offensive to gay people, women, and dogs - for starters - and I'm pretty sure I took the name of at least 2 major deities in vain. This is the part of the experiment where the chimp gets sick of trying to stick the squ...
