Re: What Car(s) do Y'all Drive?

i suck compared to you guys. 89 chevy g10 van. at least 160,000 miles, four tours and innumerable shows on it. it's dying a slow painful death. i sometimes wonder if i'm going to make it from one side of town to the other. nevermind down to NYC and back. i have a bike too. i don't know what kind it ...

Re: Sound Cards and A/D converters

I have had the Delta Omni Studio for a few weeks and I am VERY pleased with the clarity and the nice interface.... for MY needs, anyway. The M-audio folks and the dudes at Audio-midi.com are first class. I, however, am simply amazed at the amount of discontent I hear from many on the net about how ...

Re: Top snare mic sounds like a timbale...

i'm not fletcher, but that's what i do. usually an AT4040 about 5-6" off the side of the snare. generally somewhere between the middle and the top of the shell. i've tried it with both cardioid and omni's really close and didn't like it as much. it sounds more natural to me with the mic backed up a ...

Re: Underrated/overrated techniques and equipment

-bottom snare micing -mesa triple rectifiers -compressing guitars in general -pinstripe drumheads -any bass with active pickups (especially musicmans) -paiste cymbals -recording guitars super loud -recording anything in small, deadened booths i second all of that. one thing that's surprised me late...

Re: Minimizing snare drum ringing without muffling

moon gell works fine. a little goes a long way.

depending on the style of music, be carefu about muffling the snare too much. the snare might sound really ringy when soloed but if you're adding lots of guitars the ring gets eaten up every time...

Re: Sterling, ENOUGH ALREADY!

remember those bygone days when 'mastering' meant a little bit of eq/comp here and there, balancing the relative levels and sequencing it? man, screw that. guys nowadays really know how to WORK with something and take it to THE NEXT LEVEL. if my record comes back from mastering and doesn't sound COM...

Re: Kick Drums - How big is too big?

wow. 30" is pretty damn big. never played/recorded one that big, but some hearsay i can pass on is that with a drum that big you can crank the heads way up and still get a nice low note out of them...give it a try. and let us know how it turns out.
