A control-room island versus client comfort?
FlooplansOp: An odd topic subject line, I suppose. ;) It can house rack gear, books, headphones, etc. It can also be useful for crowd control. Has anyone come across a client that felt separated because of an island? Is there a rough guideline for "leg room" behind the mix position? The control-room...

For Sale: 3 Franklin Leather Bass Guitar Straps (NWT)
StrapOp: Hey, All. Looking to sell 3 Franklin Bass Guitar straps (new with tags). All of the straps are three inches wide, and made of leather. All are the same length -- at least 51 inches. 1 is all tan, 1 is tan w/ dark brown ends, 1 is all dark brown. Each tan one appears to have a small "bleache...

Multi-channel rack compressor favorites?
CompressOp: Hey, All. I have 2U's open in my rack. Currently looking at multi-channel compressors. Probably leaning towards 4ch and 8ch units. I'm trying to keep my wallwart/AC plug amounts in check. (unless there are some 2ch half-U's worth having 2 or 4 of...) Mostly planning low ratios just to ta...

Standalone Microphone Impedance-Adjust Box?
Imp_Op: I've seen preamps with impedance adjustment controls on them. Used for coaxing different flavors from microphones, so I've heard... My preamps aren't equiped with such controls. Has anyone ever dealt with an "external" impedance adjustment/selector unit? Just curious if these were ever avail...

SPDIF with/without Wordclock
ConnectionsOp: Recently picked up a mic preamp that has analog i/o plus S/PDIF-out and Wordclock-in connections. The digital i/o are extra features that I might use in the future. My DAW (aka PC w/ PCI card) has an S/PDIF input and a Wordclock output available. Can I hook this preamp up to S/PDIF on...

Rig
Originally used an older JVC receiver and "bookshelf" passive speakers. The receiver was getting weird. Figured I'd try using the MR5's instead: Replace the amp/speakers setup with a volume control and powered speakers. The irony is that I'm planning to sell the HR624's, not use them... :wink...

Hum fixed?!
Changed monitors -- 60Hz has disappeared.
Mackie MR5's are humming.
Mackie HR624's are not...
I guess that the MR5's do not like being near TV equipment...

60Hz removal in a home stereo setup?
HumOp: Hooked up some powered monitors to my TV/DVD/VHS rig. Audio out is on RCA's. External volume controller and monitors are on XLR's. I should've expected the famed 60Hz hum... Tried RCA/XLR adapters and cables (adapters were quieter, but...) Any ideas of what could fix my grounding/balancing si...

Mic splitter for recording/auditioning preamps?
MicOp: Had thought about this a while back, but had also forgot about it. Recently saw the Manley MicMaid in a catalog, which jogged the memory... There's probably going to be "some" signal loss, but has anyone used a mic splitter (not a y-cable) to run one microphone into two different preamps? I'm...
