It's simple math... if the SSL mix costs you $600 more, you need to determine: does the SSL mix MAKE you more than $600 more in sales? it's that simple. If it doesn't make you more money, then it's not, by definition, "worth it" wow, I was going to say something snide and nasty and realize that thi...

Going over The Beatles recordings with a magnifying glass and a fine toothed comb is not going to help get you anywhere. especially when you come to realize that so much of the equipment they used was either fully custom one off stuff, in house modified work that EMI had done or for the common comm...

have you heard what an SSL sounds like, in person, instead of trusting the hype about what you read on the internet? There are plenty of us who wouldnt mix a rock record on an SSL for free, let alone pay money to do it. If you know the consoles and love thier sound, go for it, but if youve never hea...

Re: A Couple Of Things That Puzzle Me About Compressors

1: Why does the Threshold knob have positive, as well as negative, values? Mine goes up to +20dB. 2: If I set the Threshold to, say, -10dB adding +10dBs of Make- up Gain should bring the overall level (-peaks) back up to 0, right? I'm pretty sure that's how Make-up Gain actually works. I just need ...

if somebody knew nothing about driving a forklift but wanted to learn, they just might be better off reading a little about it before they tried, as opposed to NOT reading anything before trying. if nothing else, just to make those initial attempts go a little smoother. I was on the road a few year...

you need to buy an MRL tape or if you cant afford one, at the very least "make" one on a machine that has been tightly calibrated to a standard using a MRL tape. Saving a windy explanation, you really cant make one accurately on another machine, the MRL tapes are full track tone across the entire ta...

It is most likely from your mic placement.

when people made honest rock records back in the day, they didnt tweak on that level, they just adjusted the mics until it souded cool.

dont make the process more ridiculous than it needs to be, making records is easy.
