Embarrased by "Personal Jesus" or "A Question Of Time"? (or anything Depeche Mode?) That's hardly something to be embarrased about... heck, anything listed here so far has its merits, methinks! well then, i'd rather listen to that particular song with you guys. i know i can choose out of feeling em...

This is really easy, Depeche Mode's 'A Question of Time'. The lyric, like several other songs in pop-dom, is addressing a 15-year-old miss. I jam over it. Sometimes I sing it, and I always change the lyric to: "Well now youre only nineteen And you look good Ill take you under my wing Somebody should...

Your Definitive Sound
Do you have a definitive sound? If so, how did you arrive at it? I'm prompted by Gary Glitter's stompy, clap-rich rhythm section and his 'elephant lead', a mix of (tone-down) fuzz guitar and perhaps some kind of horn . Everything I've heard sounds like this, and I got to thinking, how does this happ...

toolshed: thanks for revealing the truth. i just don't know. does anyone have a pre they can crank full open connected to a 57 in a quiet (but not 'soundproof' room) and not hear a high noise floor? and yes, great in-depth description by the professor. when i play my sharp/bright acoustic loud, it s...

1st, i think i'm talking about pre-noise. i think it's natural to expect 'some' with it cranked, and 'some' turns out to be too much. more specifically, i'm not sure. it's like, 'i can hear the air and the air is too much'. if the headphone cable slight brushes the acoustic body, it's too loud. so m...

Condensors, Dynamics, and Acoustic Guitar
I was complaining about the S/N ratio I was getting with a SM57 trying to record acoustic guitar, and the listener (someone who works in the same style I do) said I need a large diaphragm condensor. Is this the answer? Are condensors "hot" enough to be more suitable for acoustics? Otherwise, I'm per...

I'm curious how many here still use soundfonts. I have one multi-sampled piano one that I actually like and still use. Anyone else still rely on these much? I do, basically for an infinite supply of kicks and snares. Also, anything less than 2 bars I'd rather trigger as a sample than play as audio....
