Re: let me say the beyer 201 is a great mic
You's dont know what your talking about!!.[/quote] Al, Tell that to all the people who continually pay me to record 57-less albums for them, time and time again. I would dare anybody to put up a snare drum and mic it with a 57, KSM141, 4050, 414, or KM84, not EQ or compress it, and say that they rea...

Re: 110 uses for an 1176
There are alot of knobs and buttons on them. Experiment with them. 110 times. Then experiment with them 110 more. I've been using them almost every day of my life for the last 5 years (and some before that, too) and I still find new things to do with them all the time.

Re: NAMM show in Nashville this weekend
My advice for first-timers: Take your ear plugs and don't expect to get any kind of reasonable listening done to anything. It will be fun, though. Also, if you want to make an offer on something, wait til Sunday to do it. Many of the dealers who are selling stuff to individuals want to take as littl...

Re: ANYTHING BEHRINGER - yeah it's cheap, but we all use it.
The only piece of Behringer gear I own is an older Edison that I purely bought because it was stupid cheap used and it had an okay phase correlation meter on it. I don't even know if the rest of the box works. I have to admit that I have a bit of a problem with how many times they've been sued for b...

What did you work on tonight?
Anyone at the studio making back ups, winding down, or having a beer to forget about the session? What did you work on tonight? (By the way, this applies to Thursday, July 17th.)

Oh, yeah, and if you've never tried the compressor in a Yamaha SPX90, be prepared to be amazed.

Re: Not 1176, LA2A, or distressor
I use my dbx 161 all the time. It's pretty much an unbalanced 160. With subtle settings, I like using it to tame peaks to tape without too much unnecessary artifacting. Especially nice on kick, snare, slap bass, funk guitars, and vocals. Sounds to me every bit as much like one 160 as a differently m...

Re: let me say the beyer 201 is a great mic
I can't remeber exactly what I paid for mine, but I did a good amount of research on price and more importantly for me, who had them IN STOCK. Full Compass knocked everyone else out and I had my mic in a few days. I've also had them repair a few used Beyers that I bought and they did a fantastic job...

Re: Headphone probs?
The Sony V600s and 7506s are not anywhere near as sealed or loud as the Sennheiser HD280 Pro phones. I'm not sure which model you're talking about, but one of the studios where I work has Sony V600s, 7506s, AKG 260s, 240s, Fostex T20s, and an ancient set of Beyerdynamic DT48s. They recently bought a...

Re: let me say the beyer 201 is a great mic
Yeah, and if in certain rooms it's not bright enough, put it on the bottom of the snare. That's my favorite place for it. (Or, if you're really an Albini nut, either tape an SM98 to the side of it with the diapragms aligned, or buy an Altec 175 or Shure KSM141, which will change your life.) It's als...

I also can't help but notice the number of people at this post that talk about what a lame store it is, but still manage to shop there because of their lower prices. THIS IS WHY YOUR FAVORITE MOM AND POP STORES ARE OUT OF BUSINESS. I also love the number of people who think it's funny to buy a piece...

Interesting. You guys should all move to Charlotte. I love the one here. I'd love to figure out exactly how many thousands of dollars I've spent at he one here in the last two years and how many times thay have saved my ass or the asses of clients I've had when some piece of their equipment failed i...

Just so you know, I went to a school that has a reputation as a fantastic place to learn audio engineering. I could not get into that program because I had not taken calculus, which was required due to their strong focus in electrical engineering. I went as a "jazz major" (another strong program at ...

Re: used mic deals?
I'd need to ask Arthur if it's true, but someone told me that when James did "Brand New Bag," the bus pulled into the parking lot at 1 o'clock and pulled out of the parking lot at 1:45.
I'm sure they applied all the Pro Tools stuff after the band left.
