yeah, it seems like something mechanical is going wrong. i was ready to pop the deck apart, but hesitated. (screeching brakes car crash sample here) i think i'm gonna try another unopened old reel of 457 i have here that is if anything, spooled correctly. if it's not the tape, i'll have to dive in d...

a trick i have used to get a fatter snare sound is to duplicate the snare track, and drop the pitch on the new track till it gets a beefier sound, then blend the two tracks together to taste. a piece of duct tape could eliminate the ringing problem. fresh drum heads allways help too.

re-cone?

my amp repair guy here in arcata had both jbl's in my old twin reverb re-coned, and the voice coils replaced. not sure where he sent them, but i'm glad we did it cause those old jbl's sound awesome. not sure how much i'd care about a champ speaker. crappy speaker magnets are great for picking up nai...

homemade shockmount

well, this probably isn't the greatest shockmount in the world, but at the time it was made i had none. it's made from a 2" rubber plumbing junction with the two hoseclamps. i cut the ring off a rigid mic clip, tapped two small holes in the remaider of the ring and screwed it to the upper hose clamp...

Re: Jingles that haunt you....

h-h-her name is Tea
it rhymes with princess Lea,
but don't you see
though it's spelled that way
don't pronounce it tea.

(sung to the tune of la-bamba)
this jingle still bugs me even though it's long gone.

Re: Fender Gtr. Amp Choices

my favorite fender is the "evil" twin 1970's silverface. i have been giging with one for the past seven years, and love it. it is hella loud, but capable of some nice tones. i use it to compete with two dudes cranking a green amp, and a full stack ampeg svt. works for me...

Re: RCA mic question, heard this before?

are you sure it's not the guitar? sometimes a worn fret, or bad string will cause notes to drop out. that's a weird one.
