Re: long time listener, first time contributer

I’m a big fan of embracing limitation and using them as a tool. Necessity is the mother of invention. Embrace you shitty drums and figure out how to make them interesting. This message board is full of people saying, “how did you get that great weird bass sound” and things like tha...

Re: long time listener, first time contributer

 I didnt think the vocals were that bad but the drums do stick out like a sore thumb. If the guitar was just recorded worse it might have all worked as a quirky Oly-rock type thing. How was it recorded (4track/PC?) I’m assuming the drums were the only thing mic-ed & everything else went ...

Re: London Calling engineering notes and kick drums

In the book “A Riot of their own” it talks about the engineer or the producer (I forget which) giving Strummer a biography of Montgomery Clift and saying “Read this, its really great” and Strummer came back the nest day with the song “The Right Profile” How’...

Re: Hitachi Boombox

This is a great thread! I loved the drum sound on boombox tapes from band rehearsals but could never figure out how to get it into my 4track. I don’t know if this will work but when I was a kid we used to plug mics into tape-records without cassette and press play/record while holding down the...

Re: shake your gorilla!

The biggest drop in sound quality was from the 4-track to the MP3. I used a friend's computer, I don’t even know what the program was but it didn’t have level controls so it was trial and error. The vocals were run through a tube screamer pedal, the bass and organ were run through a Dane...

This part of the board wasnt here last time. Its excelent! Sure beats wading through mp3.com searching for something original or at least entertaining. All the stuff Ive heard here, so far, has been great or at least has something interesting about it. Well, heres hoping i dont screw up a good run. ...
