My wife's a teacher and earns far more than I ever have. So I just kind of trail along. It's not great for having a career of my own though!

I moved to South Korea about a month back and I feel that here, despite the overwhelming smartphone concentration, the hifi thing is a bit more alive. I was reading (well, actually flicking through since my Korean isn't that good yet) a lifestyle magazine and there were long articles on audio.

Actually sharks can also find a nice spot where there's a good current and just sit there, which sums up how I feel about Woody Allen. (:

There are ways to go about it but nothing that would produce good enough quality. The photoshop painting method is sometimes used in electronic music but only when it's intended to be mixed with other stuff. You could always re-record if you can't get the original multitrack to work for whatever rea...

Customers shouldn't be punished for other people making illegal copies. If there are pirate versions, which don't require iLok, then clearly iLok doesn't work to deter piracy. Therefore iLok is a stupid idea. Sorry jharvest, but this is simply not true. Do your research. ILok2 is as of yet uncracke...

Fixed that for you. Fair enough.

Same lame argument, different decade. If you don't like the conditions by which a company or individual sells something that they have every legal right to sell, you just don't buy it. Precisely what I said. Except that I also advocate people speaking against stupid, ineffectual copyright restricti...

I'm with jegler on this one. Customers shouldn't be punished for other people making illegal copies. If there are pirate versions, which don't require iLok, then clearly iLok doesn't work to deter piracy. Therefore iLok is a stupid idea. If it's easier to pirate a product than it is to use a legitim...

At least here in Arusha, Tanzania that seems to be how studios make most of their money. Singing is pretty popular, a lot of people go to church and learn to sing in that context, but few people have access to instruments and therefore there aren't very many skilled musicians / composers. Then on th...

I've used the TweakHound guides with success before.

That said I run Os X these days and I never need to worry about anything like that.

Sounds a bit unusual. Maybe the copper wire was used for some other purpose and he just thought it was for sound? After all, it can't work as a transducer unless there's a magnetic field going across it.

Personally I'd just stick a boundary mic on the floor.

I like the sound of Mixbus (can a piece of software have a sound?) and I've really liked mixing with it. It's pretty effortless to get a nice sounding mix going. Editing... Well, I try to avoid editing with it. (Yay, Tracktion!)

That's often been the case with Behringer though - their gear is generally cheaper and even accounting for their incredible bulk buying, they do need to cut corners somewhere to make a profit. Especially with cheaper gear the mentality is often to replace rather than repair which isn't the best for ...

All of those look like good options to me. Personally I wouldn't pay for an "upgrade" of an old piece of gear but apart from that. You could add Ferrofish and a Madi card to that list if you don't need preamps, I guess.

A stereo compressor is nothing but two mono compressors with their sidechains fed from an aux output.
