Re: pop production
The Stones (esp Mick as I've heard tell) have always kind of chased the pop sound to remain 'relevant.' Miss You, Undercover of the Nigh etc show this. The first single on the new record sounds like a continuation of that. Someone on the purple site called it the AI Stones and I think that's perfect...

Re: Free Soundtoys Little Plate plugin
Little plate is really great. Another cool thing (unless ST had changed it's policy) even having something they gave away free still counts toward discounts in their upgrade paths.

Re: What is this heavy Gold Star Studios Glockenspiel sound?
Nice! You nailed it, that's the sound. BUT, the one in Logic has a weird modulation to it and doesn't sound quite right, it's like out of tune. I can't quite figure out how to change it round in the sampler plugin that it comes from. any ideas? That's kind of the nature of the beast. Chimes/tubular...

Re: In-ear Monitors (IEMs)
my new tips for the SE215 are sitting at my house, but unfortunately I had to go out of town for a family emergency so I won't get to try them for a couple weeks. Good luck with what ever is going on. thanks. My mother got a new rhythm assistant installed (aka pacemaker), but she's doing ok. under ...

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
It also will take less time. But what do I know, I only play a surgeon on TeeVee... I had a kid in last night doing the "pop" with the snare. I asked him to be careful because that can be problematic. Much to my delight, he was conscious that it can be problematic and did his best not to do it. I d...

Re: In-ear Monitors (IEMs)
I got a set of Westones for $100 ish a few years ago when a band I play with put together a small PA that didn't include wedges. They came with foam and silicone tips, and I HATED the sound of the silicone for the acoustic drum bleed. I'm a hardcore foam earplug user, so I use the foam tips on the I...

Re: mixing bass with hard snappy plucks
I know what you mean. It's called "bass playing technique." haha, yes, the real solution is "Redo that part, and take it easy for fuck's sake!" It also will take less time. But what do I know, I only play a surgeon on TeeVee... I had a kid in last night doing the "pop" with the snare. I asked...

Re: Best drum heads for general recording
Interesting. Oddly, Tony Williams used them for years. true - but when he was playing more rock/fusion stuff! these don't really tune up to that bebop sound like an ambassador (they will choke sooner). but that's why I like them. To elaborate on my earlier statement, I can tune them a little tighte...

Re: Best drum heads for general recording
How are you liking the Black Dots? I haven't played them since I was a kid. I do like them. It feels more like an ambassador/emperor - still responsive. I've found myself tightening them up a bit more than I might an Ambassador or Emperor because they don't get "jazzy" that quickly, lol. I've got t...

Re: Best drum heads for general recording
Tony covered a lot of it. I use a lot of coated Emperors myself, and typically prefer a coated Ambassador on the snare drum. I've got clear emperors on one kit (but will switch to pinstripe soon) and coated emperor on 2 others. My live kit has black dots on it right now. However, there are soooooo ...
