can you post some tech info of what you did to get a strip up and working?

this way, if there's someone else in your shoes, they've got some info online!

glad to hear!

so, here's what i'd start thinking about: the play function is connected to a logic system, which might be anything from engaging a solenoid/relay to a circuit that is engaged with a voltage or transistor (or IC chip) then turned off by the stop circuit. the next steps would be: is a full schematic ...

XLR to the speaker works... but might need too much gain, and it'll be noisy. if you loved it and wanted to do it right... ...then get a ribbon mic output transformer and hook it to the speaker. i'm sure there's a few tapeoppers that have the original chinese ones they've taken out of their modded m...

switching speeds like that for a circuit might have had a sizable spark or sudden large current draw going on.

is the rubber roller moving towards the capstan?

does the capstan spin?

Used oscilloscope (been through several, never paid more than $20 for an old used analog one). I ended up spending some big bucks on a Fluke 123 Scopemeter brand new, which has the golden feature of easy mobility. It'll pay for itself before it wears out. Good soldering station, a Weller WES51. AMEN

fs: gyraf/'d.i.y' - urei 1176LN rev H w/ lundahl output xfmr

i think i've decided that i really don't use an 1176 all that much... just in general. here's a diy/gyraf schematic 1176 that I picked up from fellow TOMB member (and former amazing chicago studio operator 'djimbe') a half a year's back. as i mentioned with selling that B&O... shifting things around...

sound clips! on vocals, when i get quiet, i move really close to the mic. otherwise, i'm about 8" back, no pop filter, just minding my pops... no eq, no compression. mic to preamp to RME converters. The problem wouldn't be in electronics headroom, but rather enough bias current to properly bias the ATR tape (and erase it fully). My guess would be 'yes', as an Otari 5050 had more than enough left on the trimpot when biasing 456 style tape. Definitely enough for GP9/996 style... ATR is a smidge m...

I just record parts of the song on various record your own voice cards at Hallmark, then stick them back on the shelves. Then I wait around pretending I'm interested in purchasing a Hummel collection and see if people open the cards so I can really hear my mix in a natural acoustic environment for ...

fs: b&o bm-3 ribbon mic (orig. royer 121), enak rehabb'd

so, this obviously is the design heritage to the royer 121. i wouldn't say they sound the same... very similar, smooth, detailed treble, yes. this is much more between a 44 and 77 (both big and smooth yet slightly higher output and good treble detail) than a royer (lean and detailed all around). abo...
