Re: crown cm 700...what's up?
Way back when Nakamichi made condenser mics, I believe the CM300 or something like that. Crown improved on the design and came out with the CM700. They're good mics - nothing exciting. I prefer Oktava MC012 mics over these...

best battery-powered condenser mic???
Looking for a good condenser mic that can be powered via battery (for remote recordings, mostly for drum overheads). Anyone with recommendations? I believe some AudioTechnica mics can be powered by batteries. Thanks -

Re: TASCAM MSR-16 VS FOSTEX 16
I had 2 of these, the 15ips version and 30ips machine. I liked the 15ips better overall because of the punch. I can go either way on the dbx nr, sometimes it was cool and other times it was too colored. These machines are very reliable. Highly recommended...

Another one - guitarist punching drunk singer on his bare shoulder to the beat of the song. Close mic'd the shoulder with an AKG D12E for max thud. The guy had to be hurting for the next week!!!

Re: Tascam m-520 woes
Dumb question (but it's happened to me before): Are any PFL/solo switches on or stuck? ...or, possibly the meter bridge is burned out? Or a power supply problem? Does the meter bridge connect to the board in any way? you may want to visit www.tascam.com forums, go to the analog forum, and post your ...

Re: 1" 8-12 track analog
I suggest you be patient and do your research thoroughly before committing to this format. There are a few brokers who would be happy to sell you a used multitrack, like Blevins Audio Exchange. The only 1" 12-track I recall is the almighty Scully 280 double-wide monster. I'd not go down that path, b...

Re: Does the music scene suck this bad where you live?
San Diego was good for awhile, then totally sucked, and now still sucks but there's a lot of underground talent here, most of whom almost never play out live locally. Gone are the clique-ish aging Rocket From the Crypt Wannabies, the mid-to-late thirty somethings that got marquee shows at the Casbah...

...and once you get all that squared away I believe there's a cool reference CD out there (sorry - forgot the name). Of course, you'll have to know your CD player's true output level, etc.
