Highly recommend listening to the recent Fresh Air in which they play a bunch of old segments with him. I, sad to say, had no idea he was such a political bad ass. Loved his playing, love his story.

I too asked this question on this very board not very long ago. I too was pointed to the D5s. I too bought them. And I too recommend them.

They replaced some Event PS8's and they, frankly, replaced the hell out of them.

I've played through and recorded through many different. I'd vote Aguilar GS 112. I used to have much 15" love. But this cab is phenomenal if you ask me--and you sorta did, indirectly... anyways. I'd vote for something like this if I could only have one and wanted to use it many different ways.

http://www.cambridge-mt.com/MixingSecrets.htm I highly recommend this book before throwing a ton of money down a rabbit hole in an attempt to chase things that you may or may not know how to attain. It is an excellent resource and has really changed things for me in the past 2 years. Jeff Thanks fo...

Klipsch... er... Koch

http://goo.gl/XpI5CQ Mother Jones got their hands on a document from a Koch brothers donor meeting. It included this: "Other heavy hitters slated for meetings with the Koch brothers or their representatives included Carl Berg, a Silicon Valley real estate tycoon worth $1.1 billion; Ken Griffin, who ...

Since someone else went slightly off-topic with the Beatles, I feel the door has been opened your honor... I play bass and love a lot of different tones on recordings. I'm prepared to take some stick for this: one that has lasted for me is Shellac. I love it. Bright, grindy... I lack the words. Iron...

The D5s came. They're set up--and remembering that I'm a hobbyist and the last thing I have to compare them to were a very old pair of Event PS8s--I think they're pretty spectacular sounding. I'm hearing more mid-range than with the Events, in a good way. I hate describing this sort of stuff. Suffic...

The discussion of monitor controls is kind of interesting. I have a Mission Control from i3 Audio (they're no longer around). I haven't used it since I got the ULN2, I just control through that. The i3 thing is very good sounding. If anyone's interested in it, I'd love to move it on to someone who'd...

Well, just pulled the trigger on the equator's with the iso pads. I'll be running them via a Metric Halo ULN/2. I think I'll be happy!

Yamaha Midi Tone Generator MU90R and Studio Project B1

I have an old--but perfect condition--Yamaha Midi Tone Generator. It can be used as an outboard effects box as well. Here's some info (surprised this page is still alive): http://goo.gl/Y8Hm40. I don't know... $75? I believe I once read the effects are the same as those in the SPX90... but I could b...

F'n house needs an F'n new boiler... Price consciousness is now heightened. I'm torn betwixt the Presonus and the Equators. I hit a store and heard (as best I could) the Presonus. I thought they sounded great--but I'm not too finicky about this stuff, I don't have "golden" ears.

I kind of want to reduce total footprint everywhere, so I'd rather not add an amp, but it is a possibility--and does reduce one plug!

Gah, those D5s look nice. Too bad they only have the DSP models, I doubt I need that. But, they're still pretty dern cheap for what are apparently very very good speakers. Thanks for the heads up.

Small Active Monitors?

Because of a move, I now have a pretty small space for my little in-home studio. I need to downsize my monitors. I have a pair of 12 year-old Events that sit on floor stands. They're big suckers. I want to move to something with a smaller footprint that can sit on my desk (regular desk, not "recordi...
