Thanks, man! Some of the songs hold the same vibe, others reach a little more 70's in their scope... but, if you're keen on it, it's out digitally today. https://mpandthecigs.bandcamp.com/album/party-at-the-moon-tower On the same bandcamp, you'll also see 'Party at the Moon Tower Covers'... in which...

Drums, were Glyn Johns, and a lot of SM7b on guitars and vocals...
the kit, wasn't that fantastic, but served it's purpose (have done better, with a better kit).

Definitely referenced the thread on 'strings in a rock mix', which helped for sure.

New track...

Here's a new song, lots of overdubs via strings and vocals...

Feedback on the mix is definitely appreciated.

Today, is family day... but, actually tomorrow I'm finishing up a project that's been picked at over the last few months. The artist got into a folk-festival next month, so crunch time is on... Coincidentally... guitar overdubs... Telecaster, into an Epi Jr. head, via a custom cabinet, tracked: in t...

Flying 'solo' so to speak has become a necessary evil for me... With a 10 month old in the house, drum sessions are usually limited to a 20 minute window... which, makes it hard for me to schedule a 'competent' drummer. I do enjoy that I can take my time... All too often, when working with others I ...

A few more have been added to the pile... For Mics: the SM7b has been worked to death on vocals and guitars. Drums: D112, and an AKG C451 was on a mic stand nearby, so it became my single overhead... On a few songs, for kick I used a home-built 'porchboard', and overdubbed the snare after the fact. ...

Overall, the songs are great, and the arrangements are there for the song... Over half the battle was won right there.

You could have recorded this to carrier pigeon, and it still would have been fantastic... many kudos.

My two cents, based upon years of low-rent drum recordings and minimal economic success... (your mileage may vary). Tuning the toms in an approximate 'thirds' sounds nice whilst rolling. Search out the 'Glyn Johns method'... use that as a starting point... mic-positioning, it's not all that complica...

As of late, I've been a little sick of the 'waiting game' that goes along with releasing albums... (mastering, packaging, promo, etc.) So, for fun, I'm releasing little miscreant folk/country songs as I finish them... There's one up so far. The mix definitely could use some shaping (seems a little b...

On my old Tascam I used Maxell MS-60's, which are harder to come by, but they served me well.

I've had no issues with it... been using it for well over a year now. There's been no software updates or anything required... you do need to play around a bit to export mixes in 24bit. (but, that's my only complaint) My understanding is that the previous model 2488 (no neo) required a bunch of upda...

I switched over to a Tascam 2488neo (which is now replaced by the DP-24), and it's served my low-rent recordings well.
