Topic: question about coaxial monitor design

There's been a lot of talk and projects about building coax floor monitors on ProSoundWeb over the years and in many cases they have put some kind of material on the back of the hi-freq horn to absorb and limit some of the "noise" and comb filtering that happens when the lows reflect off of the back...

Maybe a little OT, but I have 3 421s that I was planning on selling soon since I rarely track drums anymore and have plenty of other mic options. I hate to have stuff sit unused. 2 are near perfect shape, but have my old churches name scribed on the bottom & one is beat up a bit, but still works gre...

FWIW - my drummer brother-in-law bought a pair of Beyer Dynamic isolation phones($300ish) and when I ABed them at a gig with my HD280s, I thought they had about the same isolation as the HD280s and didn't sound near as good. Do you mean the DT-150 or the DT-770? I've been thinking about getting a p...

I have a pair of 7506s, HD280s and ATH-M50s. So just to reiterate or emphasize what has already been said: ATH-M50 - sound the best, moderate isolation. These are the ones at my DAW that I check mixes on or use when I need to be quiet. HD280s - Best isolation, but they are third in SQ. I use these f...

There are quite a few smartphone apps for SPL levels. They might get you in the ballpark for relative levels between patches and you wouldn't need a calibrated mic/app for relative levels. I would set it to C-weighting and slow. The bigger issue is that many factors such as tonality, compression and...

Awaiting arrival of... Line 6 JTV89 Variax + strap locks + Reason 7 upgrade Nice. I hope you like it. I've had a Variax since the 700 came out about 10 years ago. They have served me well. I bought a JTV69s about a year ago and its a nice guitar. Once I got used to the versatility, its very hard to...

"Raising rats. When, and How?" It depends on the rat breed. I dislike rats i. general, however I have seen a few Nordic rats be used as pets, by the local goth/punk/emo, or whatever kids call themselves these days. They are cleaner than gerbils, and are very intelligent. Good luck in your rat raisi...

It's not an easy on/off setup, but the best thing that I've found for placing mics in a one room recording environment are my Futuresonic Atrios earbuds with a hearing protector over them. I get much more gain reduction of the sounds in the room than from my HD280s, 7506s or M50s.

Hey-- These are sold (I bought 'em), but I just wanted to give a shout-out to Jared/AudioSweet; have no fear of doing business with this guy! The microphones arrived quickly, were packed incredibly well, and are in pristine condition. It's nice when somebody advertises a product for sale, says they...

Re: Drum Mic Clip Recommendations

I'm looking for drum mic clips, I especially like the ones that come with the Sennheiser e604 (they bend slightly to clip on, there's no screw.) I've had several of the screw on type and find that they eventually vibrate free. Does anyone have any recommendations for mic clips that bend to clip on ...
