Re: Ways to ship large-ish console?
Moving Company might be able to add it to a current move headed east to west.
I had some furniture moved from Pittsburgh to Illinois in that manner.
My cost was reduced because it was "tag along".

Re: How to Store Cables?
A guy I have performed with a lot uses one of those wind-up reels (similar to a garden-hose reel). He winds one up, connects the XLR jack of the first one to the XLR of the second one, winds it up, connects the XLR jack of the second one to the XLR of the third one, winds it up, and so on. He unwind...

Re: Rode NT4. $300 on ebay, should i buy it?
$300 can get you a pair of NEW AKG C-1000's with which you might be able to do stereo recording plus much more. Theyre sort of a mid-sized diaphragm mic (as I have heard it called) and may work better with some straight on vocals plus they are nice for guitar amp cabinets, instruments, and some holl...

Re: what mic's should I buy?
This is a really loaded question with many answers. How many vocalists would you have singing at anyone time? ie how many large diaphragm vocal mics would you need? Those could be your biggest expense right off the bat. 2-3 of those in a low to mid price range could get you up to $300-$1000 very qui...

Re: guitar practice amps
See my Johnson J-Station post. Plug the J into your effects return on the Gorilla amp (if it has one) and let the J be your multiple amp "pre". It may also by-pass all your electronics problems plus give you 3 band eq plus a gain pot, a level pot, and a master pot that could provide for some interes...

Johnson J-Station/Digital Amp-Cabinet emulator
I just received a Musicians Friend Catalog today. They are selling the Johson J-Station for $99.00. To purists, this is certainly not up your alley. However, I've read a number of articles that have given it the "Best Bang for Your Buck" ratings. I've had mine for a couple of years and have a blast ...

Re: Starting Out
I agree with Marty! Learn your machine (Tascam), how to ping pong, etc. and push it to the limit try different mic placements Distance/different rooms/etc. BUT whatever you do, make it fun!!!! "If I could do it all over again" one thing I would do though has to do with microphones. I started with a ...

In regards to microphones, see the last 2 issues of Recording Magazine as their primary articles have been specifically on microphones. Also keep asking questions here, a lot of knowledgeable folks on this board I've noticed being a fairly newbie kinda guy... Read, Read, and Read!!! A friend of mine...

Re: Budgeting: Real Studio vs DAW
My DAW home studio is just as real as some that I've seen and maybe even better. And it's not a phenomenal set-up either. I don't think that the "Big Studio" will ever become obsolete but with the ever quickening pace of advancements in electronics, especially in computer assisted audio recording, I...

Re: Getting the most out of the mics you own
Try recording things in different rooms! Bathrooms are fun. Record with shower curtain open, then try it with shower curtain closed. Flush toilet in middle of song! :D Put source in a long hallway and then record with mike at varying distances away from the source or multiple mics at different locat...
