Re: reggae according to bob marley

I used to be big into Marley -- had tix to see him on one of the last canceled shows -- but the Island stuff & Jimmy Cliff are more 70s pop than reggae to me . . . not meant as a knock, I like them both. Another good album along these lines is Bunny Wailer's BLACKHEART MAN. Some real deep, bass-heav...

Re: acoustic drum samples

I understand you only need the *samples*, not the hardware to play 'em, but the Alesis D4 has several good snares and is pretty cheap nowadays. There's also some slight tonal variation depending how hard you hit the key.

Re: Things to do in Nashville when you're dead?

"Black Market music moved to Hollywood. When I dealt with them in the past they were very up front about what did and did not work." That's good. The SF branch had no return/warranty policy -- you buy it, it's yours as-is. I can remember getting stuck with an analog drum machine with nonworking memo...

Re: Things to do in Nashville when you're dead?

"There are none in Nashville, but if you're in San Francisco, Black Market Music would be worth a trip."

1. Isn't it closed?

2. If it's open, Caveat Emptor for sure. I've bought & traded with those guys, they really don't care if what they sell works.

End of thread hijack . . .

Re: The collest thing you learned from tape op?

1. Everybody starts out ignorant, and there's a cure for it.

2. Hard work plus caring about music, whatever music rings your bell, can overcome a lot of budgetary and technical difficulties.

Re: turntable/preamp for sampling

I got my old Hill Multimix (12 x 4 mixer) for like $250 on e-bay, and it has RIAA jacks which I think are intended specifically for turntable, although they're 1/4". Haven't tried this application though.
