re: melodyne
I have melodyne... I hardly use it... I have flirted with it before, but never fully used it in a mix... Thanks for telling me about it though... I think it is a great program. I bought it because I was trying to stack background vocals better... Yeah, when I first bought mine I was looking for a w...

Re: You all are great

Boom freeze and crash...So now 8 hrs of tracking gone, lost the idea and forgot to frequently back up (which my wife yells at me when she hears me scream fuuuuuuuuu$%) I told you start backing up your files Anthony Eugene, you don't listen.... I'm certainly not here to try to sell you on the Ma...

Re: March 2010 Issue & DIY
Hey! I built the slinky-verb this afternoon. Total expenditure: $3 it sounds, as one would expect, trashy as hell, but not in an entirely bad way. It sounds really nifty behind fat synth sounds, and gated on drum loops it adds something interesting as well. photos of building it here and a quick aud...

Im talking about Owl City. I'm not familiar with the other artist. I have heard his album all the way through and done sound for his band and still :kotzen: :kotzen: :kotzen: :ar15: :kotzen: :kotzen:  Yep. It sounds like they raided the recycle bin after a Postal Service session and then he sa...

One thing I'd add to the software on your list if you don't have it: melodyne
it's like the swiss army knife of audio (at least it has been for me). It's handy for a LOT more things than just tuning vocals.

At least the two artists you mention (Owl City & Imogen Heap) are using it in an interesting way. Take that back. :kotzen: :kotzen: :kotzen: :kotzen: yeah no way I'm taking that back. Especially in regards to Imogen Heap. That chick is a genius. If all you know of these two artists is the one track...

pgrading the Studio I need advice... Bad..
I'm running logic 9 on a macbook pro (early 2009 model) with 4G ram and it works pretty well. I routinely record 16 24 bit channels, plus at least one (usually 3) software instruments with hardly any problems at all (though some beefier soft synths can soak up the cpu a bit). So ... there you have i...

I'd rather hear lots 'o reverb rather than autotune. That bugs the hell outta me. There are bands I wanted to check out and get into but couldn't just because of that ie: Owl City and Imogen Heap. Here's the thing about auto-tune. It's been more than 10 years since Cher made the "electro-yodel" a b...

Re: anyway to use au plugin standalone? au strip, au stack e
GarageBand will host AU plugins, and it comes pre-installed on your mac, more than likely ... it's pretty minimal, and super easy to use. Less easy to use, but more tweekable, more minimal (and not to mention free) is the Apple AU Lab, which comes as part of the apple developer tools package (xcode)...

Morning Inspiration: Imogen Heap
I ran across this set of videos this morning. I'm totally inspired by this chick .... so incredibly creative. About an hour of video split up across 2 pages ... second page videos are the best. http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/video-imogen-heap-on-the-making-of-2-1-242180/2 Tape Op should TOTA...

Re: New versions of a few songs
That's a nice guitar sound ... you gotta real minimal folky thing going on. Only one suggestion. You've got three songs on your myspace page. Two of them are in the same key and nearly the exact same style. In fact, I was beginning to write this while I was listening in a different browser tab, and ...

Re: "Transform your audio with Transformers"
1] You just have to make sure you're using with 600ohm-600ohm transformers and you'll be fine. These need to be connected between your preamps and your recorder or after you recorder and to whatever you mix to, if it's otb. I was thinking of hooking the transformers up on an effects send. Then pres...

Re: "Transform your audio with Transformers"
Hey, thanks for the link to that other thread. That answers a lot of questions I was going to have about this. There's three questions I still have about this that I think are worth asking here though: 1) CAN I BLOW MY SHIT UP TRYING THIS? I don't have a lot of what people in this thread would consi...

Re: Let's see your home made desks
Well this isn't exactly a DIY desk, but it IS hella cheap.
Two things from Ikea:
A plain desk top - about $150
some legs - about $50
wall mount brackets - about $45
a shelf
put it together, and it's not bad.

AC Return for studio
Guys: I'm building my dream home studio in my attic. It's actually pretty cool, because the door to the attic is in the rear of a closet. Meaning there's like a little "air-lock" going into what will become my studio ... it's actually one of the reasons I chose this house when we bought it. With any...
