Move the machine first, then dial it in when it's in the new home.

I would like to respectfully suggest that for this task, you seek out a qualified piano moving company. People that load moving vans with furniture and boxes don't seem to give the appropriate consideration to Swiss pieces of engineering. People comfortable with moving $20K pianos are usually a litt...

that's a gritty cool mixer with some good gain, a sproingy reverb, and a really odd compressor/limiter thing. Plus them red inserts on the knobs look bitchin'

1.) can you bias that machine correctly for GP9? I don't know, I'm asking. Something to check out (the bias required and whether that machine can do it) prior to getting tape. 2.) I am not a huge fan of what GP9 does when pushed hard. I don't think it provides nearly as much tape compression as lowe...

I've torn up my own share of $100's trying to keep a 1300 sq.ft. tracking room going for the past 11 years. I wish you better overall luck than I've had...

We had a set on loan from Bill Curtis for about 6 months back in 2004 or so. Those things were something else. Up close they were very directional, and as you moved them farther from a source they would capture more off axis stuff and get closer to omni. Open, airy, very true to life capture on thos...

Hey! Bumping this old thread because I finally grabbed my Reslo and the traffo box last night.

The transformer for my Reslo is Sowter #8754f. It's in a round can, about 1 1/4" in diameter and 1" high.

The Altec 165s and 175s are kind of cool mics, even though they're not terribly "hi fi." I don't know that I'd describe them this way, but they do shine more on direct applications like snare drum, rather than as something like OH where you want some distance sensitivity. The 165/175 mics are bette...

Interesting. That might be one of my problems. Is your's a 30/50 Ohm model? Do you know what the ratio of the step up transformer? Oh, definitely mine is one of the original British spec 50 Ohm jobs. Mine is at the studio now so I can't check the Sowter number, but I know it's on the traffo. If I g...

My Reslo has an outboard transformer (a Sowter) to bring up the impedence to closer to 200Ohm. I don't think I could effectively use it without that traffo. I know someone did try to use it without once and complained that the mic didn't work. Woked just fine when I showed him the transformer that w...

The way I read your routing, I see several possible impedence/level mismatches going on. Is your guitar plugged into a line level input (and it's more than likely -10dBv, right?) or a mic level input? I can't tell. If it's in a mic input that may be some of the issue. And then you have an output of ...

I got a pair of original UA 1108's (BAE racked) for this duty and have never looked back. I've also used and loved a UA 2108 for OH, and also Hardy M1's.

But those 1108's are something else. If you got the dough and can find some they are super freaking cool and great sounding.

1.) I don't need another mic, I need to sell more of the ones I have. 2.) among the last I will ever sell is my pair of MD 406 mics. No kidding, this 40x family of capsules is fantastic. I pump them all the time here, because I love them so, and because I really haven't seen very many up for sale in...
