Language discussion in Letters section

Dear Larry and the rest of the editorial staff, I am grateful for the fellow tape-oppers who chose to write in and express their dismay at the use of the "R" word in a recent issue, which is referred to in the Letters section of the most recent issue (95). Their sense of consideration speaks to ever...

What version of Logic are you using? If it's 9 it has a pretty flexible varispeed control that you might be able to use.

Are the files the same sample rate? Could that be an issue here?

I think I read somewhere that the metronome sound you hear on the Beatles' Blackbird is just McCartney tapping on a book with a pencil.

Those balun thingies look interesting -- can you use those with the existing phone jacks in your house? I used to do something similar with our home computer network back in the days before wifi.

I did what you are describing back in the mid-80s using one of these: http://www.vintagesynth.com/linn/linn2.php I didn't know anything about midi, but it had "trigger in" and "trigger out" jacks, and we went from there. It was for replacing kick drum, and it worked much more easily than I had antic...

If you don't mind recording your performance directly to an audio track (i.e., not editing the midi later), couldn't you set the output for that track to a bus, and then set that bus as the input for another audio track?

Maybe don't spend another dime and just keep it in DADGAD or some other open tuning. You could set it up for slide, too.

+1 on the Ampegs, especially the V-series amps. They're starting to get more expensive again because the 7027a tubes have been reissued, but they're still a great deal. Built like tanks, clean headroom for miles, and a fantastic eq section with those rocker switches. My V2 is louder than my blackfac...

I think maybe you would need to set up your Laptop Mic along with the Saffire as an aggregate device in the Audio Midi Setup Utility, for starters. You might need to route it through your DAW out to the Saffire then. Interesting question!

I'm surprised how well things are going. Logic (9.1.4) is working fine -- you can even use it in full screen mode, which is cool. My MOTU Ultralite (first version) worked right away. My Tascam FW-1884 wouldn't show up as available, however, and that was the biggest hitch. But I found the solution! I...
