Re: Drummers, is this too much to pay?

I too say buy 'em. That seems like what I'd have to pay here in WA. And you can't really go wrong with an older Ludwig set, if it sounds good, holds tune, and gives the the right vibe, its perfect. Parts are also easly replaced and intermixed with these. Rock on!

Re: Magnepans to sell or trade.

Can I make a Steely Dan record with those?
......Yes, Steely Dan comes out of these, no matter what the input is! Turn your old Cro-Mags LP into Steely gold.

Magnepans to sell or trade.

Hello, I'm getting rid of an older pair of magnepan speakers. They sound really cool and look great. I have more speakers than room so they must go. If you want to trade something let me know. I like old effects pedals and microphones. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5741087509

Re: compressing bass to tape?

I like to record 2 bass tracks, a direct with compresson, and a mic with no compressor.(or combine these 2 on 1 track). This usually gives me a good blend of lows with eveything balanced nice....I have usually compressed to tape when I'm low on track space. Just listen back to the track, before movi...

Re: d112 on the bass cab

I've liked this set up. AKG D12E about 4' from cab, and either a direct box (sansamp) or a 57 or 121 in closer than the D12E. Its fun to get the bass sound right up front, and have the great low end too. Unsane are cool, too! Fuck Joel, it must be nice!

Re: anyone familiar with magnepan magneplanar speakers?

I have a pair of older magnepans and they are cool. Everyone else is correct. Placement is key, use a good amp, and the low end is flat. ...I made the mistake of resting them up against the wall. It sounded bad, so you gotta get them out in the room. Keep this in mind when planning on the bid. You'l...

Re: Lubricated goat -rules! am I wrong?

Joel Hamilton, I thought the new Goat was a best of, now that I know its old songs redone, I'll have to pick it up. Can I rant a little? When 'Forces you don't understand' came out, I was somewhat let down. Why? Forget about the actual songs, but one of the reasons I love those old goat records was ...

Lubricated goat -rules! am I wrong?

I just wanted to open a thread on Lubricated goat. The old red eye records albums are some of my favorite ever. The production and sound quality is so raw and gritty, it fits in perfect with their fucked-up songs and styles. 'Paddock of Love' is very distinctive. Anyone else love the 1st 3 Goat albu...

Re: TONTO article generating comment

I bought a Steve Hillage record "Motivation Radio" a couple weeks ago and it has Malcolm Cecil on it. Very cool record if your into GONG (kinda spaceship trippy hippy). I love the sound of this recording, very 1977 with ultra warm drums by "Joe Blocker". I think this style of 1970s recordings are tr...

unique sound from placing microphone inside trumpet bell

Just wanted to pass on a cool filter effect of placing a mic into an old sawed off trumpet bell. I took a 57 and put some cork around it (for better fit, and to keep the bell from contacting the mic) This treatment sounds just like what it is. You get the 57 sound but theres this tone that just soun...

Anolog guy wants a 24 track hard disk, Maybe?

I've been using out board mic pres with a Tascam MSR16 (mixing on a mackie 24/8) and wanna get a 24 track Hard disk machine to use with certain projects. Can someone tell me is the TascamHD better than the MackieHD, do they both suck? I'd like to be able to edit as on a DAW but computers freak me ou...
