Awesome. I'll probably be moving at a snail's pace (job search and young children) but I'll update my progress here. If you haven't seen it already, be sure and check out the Dub Discussion Board forum on the Fisher SpaceXpander. There are some good threads on the restoration process of this particu...

A bit late to the party, but I gotta say the most recent Coldplay album 'Xylo Myloto' is really good. Loving the songwriting, the dense mixes, and the distorted keyboard sounds. Reminds me of some of the late 80s early 90s shoegazing textures, but with better songs and more passionate performances. ...

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c48/shedshrine/vinyl%20room/kraftwerkjapankeithjarrettneilyoungJCSuprstr.png That Kraftwerk album is amazing, and it must be experienced on vinyl. Something about the vinyl crackling adds to the experience of hearing the Geiger counter speed up. 'Computer World' is...

Thanks for your advice and link the article on replacing filter caps. I will definitely have to read up on dealing with the multi-section cap. The terminal strip approach sounds like a plan.

Recapping a Fisher Spacexpander tube spring reverb unit

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j290/djeasygo/spacex.jpg (image borrowed from a post on gearslutz.com) I'd like to get my Fisher SpaceXpander into good operating condition. For those who aren't familiar, it was a tube-driven spring reverb unit made by Fisher as an accessory for home stereos and e...

I would suggest getting some professional advice on the building. I would definitely have the place inspected to get a realistic view of what the building needs to be viable. Structural/foundation issues, need for a roof, electrical and plumbing issues can be deal killers. I would also consult a pro...

Nice score on the M2!! Oil them wells and felts, and then let it run for a couple days straight. Don't retube anything that's not squealing quite yet. Hadda M3 for a while, and the thing just needed to spin for a couple hours before it "setled in" I think the mechanical tone generation depends a lot ...

That was a good price on that Orban, considering the prices on ebay. I paid more just to have mine recapped by a well-known, rockstar tech.

I do see used NAD gear for reasonable prices on craigslist and ebay. Just make sure it has a phono preamp. Polk Audio speakers seem to be abundant and relatively cheap. The ported ones sound better.

Wanted to post a photo of the one-owner 1954 Hammond M2 I picked up this week. Weighs about 200 pounds and took 4 dudes to move it comfortably. Although it is fully functional, I was happy to see the Tube Store carries every tube in stock; most are NOS tubes starting with an 6 code. Also has a 5U4 a...
