What exactly defines a "pro" studio or engineer? If you're making money doesn't that make you a professional? I think if you know your room, know your gear, practice and work hard you can make excellent records in any space.

You might check out the ADA MP-1. It's got tubes and sounds pretty good. I used it for a church gig (sigh...) which required a wide range of clean/dirty sounds. Billy Corgan used an MP-1 exclusively for SP's Gish album if that helps. I think it is the MP2 that has the tubes in it. I can't remember ...

Holy shit! Granted, I haven't bought insulation in about 3 years, but last time I checked it was $.26/sqft for 2" 6pcf rockwool with foil backing. What brand are you looking at? I've found OC overrated and overpriced when Roxul/rockwool will work as good or better.
