Re: poor man's leslie?

Probably misses the point, but it's pretty common to score a Leslie 25 for like $50. I got mine for free. Great Leslie for guitar. Not the best for actual Hammond.

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 1-05-05

I re-mixed some tracks at Sound Impressions in Portland for Caveman Hughscore, Caveman Shoestore band with Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine) - these tracks are 12 years old and the bassist (Fred Chalenor) found the master tape in a record store in Portland for sale! I'm doing the sessions at a studio I do...

NOS Mullards or Telefunkens are my all time favorites. I have Mullards in most everything I own, NSEQ-2, Grommes mixer, etc.

Never worked with Shane in the studio, but I've run live sound for him a few times. Shane's a great guy. Perhaps you've heard the name because of the mics. Erik Wofford Stapes Audio No, your name seemed familiar. I worked with Shane some on a radio program we were attempting to develop together out...

Erik,

Your name is familiar. Any chance you've worked with a local guy named Shane Bartell?

Re: What Did You Work On Today? 1-05-05

It was a busy day! And it's not over... A proposal to do a bunch of audio and video work for an internet psychic and tarot reader. No shit. Life is strange! Also a couple of original pieces got sent out for review, I scheduled some sessions, emailed 2 clients with arrangement ideas and dealt with an...

Re: EQ and Comp plugins for Mac/ProTools LE

Everything by PSP is quite good! The Bombfactory stuff is overated, but the MoogerFooger series is pretty sweet.

McDSP is an old-time favorite; they don't make my heart race but they are dependable, solid workhorses, especially the EQ.

Re: Studio Owner SHOT.....KILLED....

Unfortunately, this is a somewhat "common" occurrence in my experience; I know of a several other studio shootings in the last couple of years. All the same; late at night, just the producer or engineer in the studio. With all the gear we have and the hours and company we sometimes keep, it's kind o...

Re: A good place to learn basic electronics

Hooray for the search function! My New Year's resolution is to learn something about electronics and musical instruments. My goal is to be able to give those my Hammond and Farfisa organs in my basement the love they need to become functional again and also conveniently chopped (this is a LOOONG te...

Re: 2 types of compressors for mastering ?

I have RARELY ganged two comps together during mastering. The few times I did, it was to correct some pretty severe dynamic issues when remixing was not possible.

Cellotron's list is pretty much spot-on.

The times I ganged the comps it was an VariMu with STC-8, just FYI.

I just went to their site:

And it seems to be working fine for me. Maybe try it again.

Re: in-ear love

I have not tried the Shures, but I woulnd't be parted from my Etymotic ER-4Ss. They are simply amazing. With a proper seal, the bass response is actually fairly accurate (not exaggerated) and the sense of spacial detail is superb.
