are you having problems, or just worried? if it's the latter, then my advice is to not worry. if it's the former, then let's hear it. are your patch cables too short?

I got the parts to make Newyorkdave's design, but the link at the top of this thread seems to be down. does anyone else have the schematic? i thought i'd saved it when i first saw it, but i'm beginning to think it was on my now-kaput ibook.

well, i figured it out and figured i'd post the solution in case someone else has this problem too. it's quite simple: my converters were set to 88.2 khz, so my computer was sending youtube etc.'s 44.1 khz signals through the computer's built-in speaker. once i set my rig to 44.1, everything was gre...

atr 102 wavering speed

for a few months now, my atr 102 1/4" capstan has had the problem of not gripping the tape well when rewinding. the only consequence has been that i have to toggle between rewind and stop a bit to get the capstan slow enough to grip the tape. unfortunately, last night the problem got worse, and now ...

i've been thoroughly digging nicolas collins' book handmade electronic music which is all about cool, fun, cheap ways to make demented noises of this sort. as soon as i have some free time, i want to try a bunch of his ideas.

problem with a moog satellite

i just acquired a broken moog satellite for cheap, and am trying to diagnose it. here's the deal: it powers up (the power light comes on). however, it makes no sound. then, if you hold a key down and turn it off and on again, it makes a lovely sound for a split second, before going silent again. rep...

i've already got one, but i just thought i'd chime in and say that this is an awesome mic. it's attack-y in the right way. it's good by itself or as an inside-the-kick-mic in conjunction with an LDC outside the front head.

i've purchased new parts for my ecoplate directly from jim cunningham (the designer of the ecoplate) with great results. he's a very nice and informative guy. i don't have his number, but he's easily found if you google "jim cunningham ecoplate".

i'll second the two-mics-on-one-voice technique. i tried it as an extension of ross hogarth's "57 and a royer" guitar amp micing method, and got great results. although for a vocal, a ribbon and a bright condenser go well together. of course, the phase is a big issue.

cheap old reel-to-reels make awesome delay units! you can use the same tape over and over, and some have built-in speakers that can make interesting/weird guitar amps. it seems like there are a lot of cool old mono tube ones that no one seems to want.

theory question about EH micro-synth-type circuits

I'm not necessarily planning a project, but have always wondered . . . What is the basic theory behind the EH micro-synth and other devices' ability to track pitches from a musical instrument? this may sound quite naive, but is it similar to the speaker-as-microphone concept, i.e. if you apply a fre...
