Re: PT outboard latency
I'm not quite sure what you're asking.... are you trying to figure out how much latency there is by sending the file out then back in... it's pretty simple to figure out: send track out of the 001 through out 5, then back in to input 5 (or whatever). Then zoom in to the first bump on your wave file...

PT outboard latency
PT LE (5.x and 6.2.3), 001, G4 800 Clearly, sending a track through a piece of outboard gear will induce some latency. And so will just sending a signal out and bringing it back with no outboard equipement in the way. But here's the million dollar question: will it be the SAME AMOUNT of latency? I'd...

PT AD/DA send latency
PT LE (5.x and 6.2.3, depending), 001, G4 800. I like to send my drum submix through a compressor and tuck it underneath the uncompressed drum mix. Of course, when I do this in PT, I have to set up the same compressor on my straight submix as on the "compressed submix" and just bypass it on the "non...

Re: CB Radio sound on vox
The original Smile tracks didn't have filtering on them, so I also thought it was sort of odd it was added. But it does work well in 'Holidays'. Really? I've never heard the "original" version, and I've heard lots of people here say how faithful the recording was to the bootlegs, so I just assumed ...

Re: CB Radio sound on vox
The thing on SMiLE was a bull horn, and I think it has a way different sound then CB or AM radio. Really? The way it fills out into a full frequency sound (at "how I love my girl..") sure sounds like high and low cut filters being opened up. How would they make a bull horn sound transition into the...

Re: CB Radio sound on vox
But hold your horses, pardner: you may want to be conservative with this technique. Take a look at the "Currently done to death studio techniques" thread, or whatever it was called, and you'll find the am radio thing listed near the top. That's all this world needs: one more am radio sound on a reco...

Re: wiring XLR to TRS
I build my own. They are great to have around for quick fixes. I assume that you are running the output of your mic pre (not the input) to the 1/4" patchbay. I do this and it works out well. Jason Correct. Althout I hope to mount an XLR panel in my rack soon so that I don't have to crawl back there...

Re: wiring XLR to TRS
And another thing:
If my piece of rack gear (in this case it's a pair of Seventh Circle N72 preamps) only has XLR out, can I just make and XLR to TRS cable and plug it into my patchbay, or is there some hidden impedence problem or something?

Re: Anybody know about syncing a drum machine to Pro Tools?
Thanks, Bombastique. It looks like the Electribe only receives MIDI beat clock. If I start the track at the beginning, the drum pattern also starts at the beginning. Which is great, except that in this song, the drum machine doesn't come in for a while. How can I get the Electribe to start at the be...

Anybody know about syncing a drum machine to Pro Tools?
I'm trying to record an Electribe drum pattern in a PT session. In the peripherals dialoge I set PT up to send MMC to keep the Electribe, and I got the two of them synced up....but I couldn't figure out how to get the Electribe to START at the same point in my session. Every time I started recording...
