Re: Compression BEFORE or AFTER ???
Now, if you want to compress the drums going to tape so you can get that tape compression...well, that's an option. But if you compress going to tape, the tape won't have a lot of dynamic range to work with, and the returns might not be as good than if you tracked hard to tape without compression. ...

Re: Famous records featuring the Stratocaster
A lot of (or most anyways) Nevermind record by Nirvana. Derek And The Dominos. Most Red Hot Chili Peppers records. Most Hendrix records. Stevie Ray Voughn (sp.?). That guy in the Shadows. Jimmy Page used one on the song In The Evening. Later era Jeff Beck. Alot of 70s funk... like the song Freak Out...

Re: STUPIDEST BAND NAME YOU'VE EVER HEARD?
Yea, but it may be more fair to consider the times with regard to names though. In the late 50s The Beatles, the Crickets, etc. was not stupid sounding like today just like 'She Loves You' wasn't as silly sounding a song back then... or was it?

Re: Barreling in
That Horn player sounds like a real tool. However, consider a different perspective before some of you guys go off high-fiving each other: In some sessions a few years ago, I asked nice and respectfully for no effects on the guitars and for specific mics that I had experiance with tracking my sound ...

Yea, but he was such an asshole and everybody at school hated him. They named the band LS just to piss him off which is pretty cool.literati wrote: My vote for worst band name - Lynard Skynard. They named the band after their FUCKING GYM TEACHER!!!

Re: Ever go to a "big studio" and...
I got you all beat. I was in the control room for a mixing sessions of a CD that was manny, manny weeks in the making. One day the engineer was getting visably frustated by the mix not going right. He would make changes and ask me what I thought. After a few times of politely saying "it's ok, but it...

Re: Help! Acoustic Guitar Sounds Way Too Bright.
I got an absolutely huge warm sound out of my Gibson by using a Sure SM-7 mic. Wow. Also, I think you really should use a compressor to tame the transients because they translate to "boomyness". The compressor you use can help alot too. What about something like the Bellari tube/optical compressors ...

Re: Notes from a powered Monitor listening session
Mr. Donut, I like people's opinions based an first hand accounts/observations like this. If more people did this, we could really see trends in "likes and dislikes" to help steer us in the right directions when we don't know much about a specific area like 'monitors'. Thank you for taking the time t...
