Yea, but it may be more fair to consider the times with regard to names though. In the late 50s The Beatles, the Crickets, etc. was not stupid sounding like today just like 'She Loves You' wasn't as silly sounding a song back then... or was it?

I got an absolutely huge warm sound out of my Gibson by using a Sure SM-7 mic. Wow. Also, I think you really should use a compressor to tame the transients because they translate to "boomyness".
